Is this a male L-177 (Gold Nugget)?

Post by Crazie.Eddie »

Since I have been incorrect about determining the L # on one of my pl*cos, I want to verify that my L-177 (if it is indeed an L-177) is a male. I understand the all male pl*cos have whiskers, some smaller than others. Some of the pix I have seem to look as though it may have small whiskers.

Sorry about some of the pix not being so clear, but my pl*co is at the corner.

Thanks again. I hope to get a macro lense to take even closer shots. I didn't want to reduce the size of the photo in case someone wanted to get a real close look at my fish.

4'? I was told it would grow only to about 6"-7". It's only about 3" or so right now. Would it still be hard to determine the sex at this size?

I think Yann meant 4", not 4' :-) L177 are reported to hit 14", but this has not been confirmed yet.

WHEW. LOL

Thought I would have to save up for a 500 gallon tank.

Does mine look like a female or male? I understand the whiskers tend to be small on the L-177. Looking closely at the pix I have, there appears to be some kind of whiskers. Can't tell though. I hope to take better closeups to make sure.

HI!

Yeap I meant 4''... your fish is far too small to be sexable... wait until he/she is at least 7''... until then you will not be able to tell sex apart...
Cheers
