Panaque cf. armbrusteri Xingu Habitat

Post by Thomas W »

Hello,

I currently have a 325l aquarium with Xingu River habitat.
My riversetup is made up by two powerheads each pushing out 3000l/h each, in total 6000l/h.
I also have 1x Eheim W/D filter 1100l/h and a smaller 600l/h Eheim filter.

In this aquarium i have Scobiancistrus Aureatus and Baryancistrus L-081. Im considering to buy some Panaque cf. armbrusteri Xingu, an wonder
how its habitat is compared to the other fish mentioned, is it only slow flowing, wood and sand habitat? or is it fast flowing river with wood sand and rocks? In other word, do they live together, L-081, L-014 and the Panaque cf. armbrusteri Xingu L-27?

Thanks for all replies!

Sorry I cannot offer any advise on whether these fish share the same habitat, but here is my experiences of keeping a very simialr group together.

I keep L14, L81 and L190 (we don't get L27 here in NZ :( ) in a 2000L tank with moderate flow, sandy substrate and plenty of driftwood. I haven't noticed any aggression between the different species, only between the individual Panaques. I feed primarily NLS Mega Fish formula, suplimented with algae wafers and veges once a week, plus other NLS foods (1mm cichlid and Thera A formulas I feed to my Geophagus) that the plecs occasionally graze on.

The only problem I see in your case is tank size. I don't know how many L14 and L81 you have or how large they are, but I had my 4 L190, 3 L14, 1 L81 and 2 L128 in a custom long/wide 430L tank for 12 months while I was building my current tank and that was long enough. I would advise against buying the Panaques unless you are planning an upgrate to a tank with a considerably larger footprint in the not-too-distant future.
David R's 2000L tank build - now up and running with fish and water and stuff, check it out!
