Pleco IDs please

Post by bslindgren »

I have asked about my BN before, but I got some better pictures, so I thought I would see if I get the same answer.

I also bought these rubbernose plecos, but haven't been able to match with any pictures. They are quite small (1.5 inches at this point). Excellent grazers on algae, and out and about a lot. Love them!

Sorry for the poor quality - I couldn't get it to come closer and dithers were swimming back and forth in front, making the photo a bit tricky to get.

Anyway, if someone can give me an idea of what they are I'd appreciate it.

I would think it will be nearly impossible to ID a BN without capture location. Even that depends on whether they are WC, and if you know where they came from.

I'd say the rubbernose is either or .
As Aled says, it would be difficult to confirm ID unless you have a capture location, statistically speaking, it is most probably the 'common' bristlenose .

Thanks. I've never seen fish sold up here with any mention of where they originated, so unfortunately that's a non-starter. I'll call it sp(2) based on the photos. That seems to be a good enough fit. I'll have to add it to my catfishes page. They are lovely fish, whatever they are.
