My Baryancistrus demantoides and Hemiancistrus subviridis

Post by Haavard Stoere »

When I first bought a group of 6 Ancistrinae-L200 in 04 I wasn´t conserned about the identification of the fish. I wanted to buy them anyway.

This Spring I bought 5 more from the same shop. These were as the first group I bough imported from Colombia.

The last couple of months I have studied photographs of my 11 fish and discovered that I have 2 Baryancistrus demantoides and 9 Hemiancistrus subviridis.

I will try to get more Baryancistrus if I get the chance, and also keep my Hemiancistrus subviridis.

This is the smallest one. About 11 cm. I think it was bought this spring.

This one is about 14cm. I´ve had it since 2004

The Hemiancistrus subviridis, especially the males have more contrast between the basecolor and the spots. This makes them quite attractive. My big Hemi. males don´t very often show themselves, so i don´t have good pictures of them yet.

A bad picture of my Hemiancistrus subviridis (probably male).
The contrast of the yellow spots is really stunning.

Fantastic photographs, even the "bad" one is great. Beautiful fish. Are you trying to breed them? Any luck so far?

It´s a long term projekt. My goal is of to breed them, but there is little information on breeding these fish.

I will try to give them a lot of space, a varied and healthy diet, suitable caves and clean fastrunning water.
