L200 eggs...

One of my L200 Hemiancistrus subviridis males is on eggs.. yeehaa

Should I let him take care of the eggs on his own, or should I hatch them
in an incubator?

Some time ago I bred L128... all but 5 died... I reckon the L200 babies are just as difficult to raise - any good advise how to raise them in the best way?

Congratulations, I am raising some L128 at the moment, the first clutch of eggs, maybe 40-60 I left with the male. Some got kicked out of the cave while they still had yolk sacs. I left some in the tank, and put some in a floating breeder box. None of them survived.

About 3-4 weeks later the male was guarding more eggs, although this time approximately 20. I have left him to look after all of them, and only a few fungused eggs were kicked out of the cave early on. He has been a much better parent this time around, and approximately 3 weeks on from the eggs being laid, they have used all of their yolk, and I think are now eating (either courgette, or the mix of Repashy solient green and bottom scratcher I have made for them).

At this point I have only seen one outside of the cave, I'm not sure if that is because they take shelter in there during the day or because the male won't let them out. Either way he is a much better parent the second time around.

I have not bred L128's or L200's...... but I do have some experience with a lot of different pleco and breeding them. The male can take care of the eggs better than we can.... so unless you see a problem you may want to let him do his job. Try doing smallish (10% to 15%) daily water changes and add the water slowly. Some fry are sensitive to changes in the water than others are.... also sudden changes may make the male fan a lot more/harder and kick the eggs/wigglers out. Also try not to shin a light in the cave or take pictures..... this is often why the dad eats the eggs from my experience.

Thanks for your answers! Yesterday the eggs hatched, and a wiggler was outside the cave. To protect the rest, I put them in a tumbler. They are all ok at the moment, but I know they are fragile.

Good to hear, how many have made it so far?

I have about 6 of my L128's still doing well, they are slow growers though, they haven't got noticeably larger since their yolk disappeared, which was about 3 weeks ago. I guess L200 will be similarly slow growing.

When I had a spawn on L128 they were slow growers like yours..

I think these L200s have absorbed their yolk quite fast - faster than my L128s did.

I recon the batch was about 30 eggs. 4 wigglers didnt make it and one that was almost developed died. So about 5 deaths so far, which leaves about 25 alive.

They look very similar to my L128, yours maybe slightly lighter in colour.

There are two variants of L200, one of them has not been spawned up to date, so maybe your friend was referring to that one - L200 "High fin" or Baryancistrus Demantoides.
The species being discussed here is Hemiancistrus Subviridis aka L200 "Low fin".

Still it's a big achievement to get these to spawn and actually raise the fry

MarcW - yes, I starede feeding yesterday. They got an easily dissolved green tab and a spinach leaf that had been boiled briefly .

MarinFlorin - The adult group is in a 325 liters tank measuring 130x50x50 cm. They are being fed with green pellets and artemia

Jobro - sure. Temperature around 28-30 degrees celsius, 200 ms, ph about 7.
There are one 10.000 liter/hour and one 6.000 liter/hour pumps in the tank, so yes, the water moves around:)

Wow, that's a lot of circulation you got there. MarcW got a lot in his Hemiancistrus setup as well. Maybe they need that kind of current to breed.
How big is your tank?
