Type Locality Tapanahony River, Kumaru Konde Sula, 3°21.960'N, 55°25.926'W, Sipaliwini District, Suriname.
Etymology Pimelabditus is from Pimelodus, a genus of catfishes, and abditus, Latin, meaning hidden. The species is named after Dr. Jan Mol.
