Type Locality Small affluent of Río Nanay, 3°52'S, 73°29'W, Quebrada of Mishana camp, Province Maynas, Depto. Loreto, Peru, elevation 107 meters.
Etymology Myoglanis: Greek, myos = muscle, and also, mouse + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish. koepckei: Named in honor of Hans-Wilhelm Koepcke, who started and was the first curator of the ichthyological collections of the Museo de Historia Natural, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima
