Isn't there that spawning report in the May 1998 issue of TFH?

Magnum,

The article in the '98 TFH is a very reliable article. It doesn't mention it because of the time frame, but the same set up produced repeated results, as per personal communication with the author. I'd also recommend talking to as many zebra pleco breeders as possible for tips on tank set-up. Aside from differences in cave dimension, they are very similar in their tank requirements.

Magnum,

The tank set up is very similar. Obviously, the caves are more proportioned to the size of the fish. Spawning is usually triggered by a massive water change and the addition of current at the same time. The fish should be at least 4 inches SL before spawning is attempted, and 6 is more reasonable to expect results. Spawns range from 10 to 30 and is dependent upong the age of the breeders. 30 should not be expected before the fish are at least 2 years old.
