How to sex two Panaque Maccus (Clown Pleco)

Post by paul_southend2k »

I two Panaque Maccus (Clown Pleco) and they are starting to fight with the Chaetostoma cf. thomsoni (Stripped Rubbernose Pleco) I have.

I have a Juwel Rekord 120 tank... is this enough space for them?

How do you sex the Panaque Maccus???

Thanks

From the Cat-eLog:
"Like all members of the genus, males grow elongated interopercular odontodes during the breeding season. Males develop noticeable odontodes along the dorsum as well."

Chaetostoma are territorial by nature, so the fighting is not surprising.

To put simply, males should have a patch of spines on the cheek during breeding season.
And please stop double-posting. Posting things twice doesn't mean you will get twice as many answers.

Paul,

I've noted that happen once or twice here too. It sometimes is due to the ISP and the interactions with a forum. Sometimes it cannot be helped. If we all had DSL (I wish I had one but that would interfere with my disposable homebrewing and Aquaria income) this may be prevented. But we all have priorities!

It's Saturday! Have a cold one (pop or other favorite beverage) and relax!
