Anything named in a dissertation is not an available name, according to the Code. I think it’s poor form for Planet to be propagating nomina nuda.

Thanks HH, good spot, Eric made the change and can maybe comment?

In this case, they look like descriptions that are chapters of a wider work some of which is published. Looks like Chapter 3 was submitted to Neotropical Ichthyology in 2022. I could be wrong, what was linked above was hard to quickly understand structurally. Maybe chapters 3 and 4 have not yet been published?

I agree with the poor form bit and if we've "jumped the gun" then maybe we revert the spp. entries to sp(1) etc until the works are published?

Cheeers,

Jools

Yes I added these species. Much of Dario's work was published before the dissertation was released. I suspect I thought the same as Jools that it had been submitted. I sent an email to Dario the day I posted this here, but haven't heard back.

I'll change the names to sp(1) and sp(2) for now.

Thanks HH and Jools.

Cheers, Eric

It's not only the species names that are nomina nuda. The new genus name remains a nomen nudum until published in a Code-compliant way.

Done. Name scrubbed until publications confirmed. Thanks again HH.
