A keeper on MFK sexed 'em for me and the lighter one is a female and darker is a male. So excited for the possibility of more

Re: T. Intermedia woodcats
Great looking fish. I have had about 6 batches of lots of eggs from mine in the last 12 months and they are really fun. I have sold a bunch locally and have around 30 fry at the moment in a 20G long and feeding time is truly a frenzy. Good luck with them.

Thanks, how do you induce spawning? I've only seen one suggestion for doing multiple water changes leading up to a spawn event.characinkid wrote: ↑10 Jan 2022, 18:00 Great looking fish. Re: T. Intermedia woodcats
I feed heavily with frozen Blood worms, NLS cichlid pellets, Freeze dried tubiflex worms etc, and you will see the females fill with eggs. I also observe more chasing between my group and then start with water changes. I change about 20-25% per day for about 1 week and then spawning usually occurs. Eggs are laid in a cluster (like frogs eggs), which I then separate. They hatch in about 3-5 days and are perfect miniatures of the parents. Let me know if I can be of any more help!

Re: T. Intermedia woodcats
Thanks. I have a cold water drip going into their tank currently. I feed frozen brine once a week. Otherwise, they get Ken's 0.5mm green fry pellets or Ken's 1-2mm cichlid pellets.characinkid wrote: ↑10 Jan 2022, 19:55 I feed heavily with frozen Blood worms, NLS cichlid pellets, Freeze dried tubiflex worms etc, and you will see the females fill with eggs. I didn't see the woodcats come out to eat but I picked up some live black worms and dropped a healthy serving in the tank.

Re: T. Intermedia woodcats
Honestly that is quite surprising, all of the woodcats that I have kept, T. strigata, T. reticulata, D. perugie, D. altae T. gyrina T. simplex A. batrachus and even T. intermedia etc. have all been female heavy. Especially intermedia which out of all six of mine there is only 1 male which was very hard to get. I will let you know when my fry become availible.

Thank you. When I pick these up I purchased the last ones in stock. I didn't know how to sex them at the time so I hadn't looked for more.Catfish-ologist wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 00:44 Honestly that is quite surprising, all of the woodcats that I have kept, T. strigata, T. reticulata, D. perugie, D. altae T. gyrina T. simplex A. batrachus and even T. intermedia etc. have all been female heavy. I do have 9 mini orcas that are a mixed group. Am thinking of splitting them up into two groups.

Re: T. Intermedia woodcats
During feeding I noticed one of the male T. Intermedia had tuned solid brown hiding the patterning on his sides. I caught all 3 to see if he would stay solid or revert. Also gave me a chance to sex them, 2m/1f.

Neat. Yeah, they will get darker and lighter with mood, water conditions, and tank decor (and age too, I have seen for other species).

Re: T. Intermedia woodcats
One male as noted in an earlier post has darkened. Also of note is that the tail pattern changed too. He doesn’t have the vertical wavy bar, just dots. The female has retained her pattern and bar on the tail.

Moved the T intermedia to the tank where I had held the T musaicus. I added an Aquaclear 50 as a water mover.

Keeping this thread going... a late christmas present from my T.intermedia group!
Hope that I can raise most of them this time. Have figured out to get high hatch rate, only ever get 20-30% to salable size! Would like to get that number up over 50% if possible.

One of my intermedia is starting to develop bleached spots on its body. As soon as he stops swimming he starts to list to one side. The white spot near the caudal is slightly raised. I have offered them to a local hobbyist who has a soft water well.
