Blue eyed Ancistrus

Hi,
These are small, around 6cm TL and labelled as wc Ancistrus L048 (obviously incorrect).

I’m hoping there is a chance of a positive Id. as their striking blue eyes stand out from most Ancistrus I have seen. The eyes are even more blue in real life.

Wonder if possibly a hybrid mix between the common bristlenose and l144...

But bumping this up for you to get a more educated answer :)

Cheers MissNoodle:)
I’m fairly certain the fishes are wild caught so that should rule out the hybrid suggestion.

is the "usual" one. Don't think it's that, there is an Ancistrus marketed as an LDA number that I can't for the life of me remember that looks like this too. If they are wc, where from?

Something else to consider is that I have seen many loricariids at exporters in South America that had blue eyes due to eye damage caused by the overdosing of medications. In these cases the fish were not actually "blue eyed" but appeared to be due to the cataracts that had formed on their eyes. You may find that, if you spawn them, the fry all have normal eyes.

Thank you for the replies.

Jools: Unfortunately the store owner did not have any information like that.

Shane: sorry to hear that. Now when you mention it, The females eyes do look a bit cloudy in the photo. Makes me think of “ammonia burn”, or maybe it’s the angle.

I ended up not getting these after all as I would have liked some information on them. I suppose we won’t know how the offspring would have looked.
