Leopard Frog (L134) Sexing

Hi,

I was just wondering if I could have some help sexing my 3 leopard frog plecos? Any input from members who have kept this species would be greatly appreciated. Attached are the links to 2 videos I recently took of them. They all range from 2.75-3".

A few months ago, I noticed more pronounced odontodes along the tail of 1-2 of them; however, these are not as easy to identify now. Is this because they are out of their typical breeding season? Personally, I think there are 2 males and 1 female (darker colored one with 2 circles above the dorsal fin); however, I have also read that the females tend to be more plump than the males and the 2 that I think are males are definitely the wider ones. Thank you!

Hi Bcast077,

My female have absolutely no odontodes on posterior of body (flanks of caudal peduncle), whereas my males consistently grow the caudal peduncle odontodes every year (then lose them in the winter).

Cheers, Eric

Thanks for the reply Eric! Were you able to view the videos via the links I provided? I would love to hear what sex you think my 3 leopard frogs are. Thanks again!

Here is a pic of one of my males in full odontile mode. My fish are not all that seasonal so i see this appearance when they are in spawning mode as opposed to calendar timing.
