Bought some Hypancistrus as L345's over a year ago and decided it was time to move them out of QT. I'd like to hear your opinion on if they are in fact L345 or something else.

Thanks,
Chuck

Beautiful fish Chuck... But oh I hate trying to figure out the ID of black & white lined/spotted Hypancistrus. :)) So many look alike, unless you have accurate catch location info or a reliable chain of custody for captive bred fish.

Sorry, Eric

P.S., a year in QT? Dang, that's "next level!" :-BD

lol Yes, a little overboard on the QT.....
I trust where they come from.... I know he does travel to SA and gets his own fish too. But I am with you... way to many black and white Hypans are very confusing.

Take care,
Chuck

PS. I am sure I bought 8 of them in the beginning.... and I pulled 10 in total today. 2 are a lot smaller.....

A secret spawn? Awesome! Oh, yes, I can see at least one (maybe both in diff. photos) in your pics. Cool!

Cheers, Eric

I am assuming that is the case.... unless I'm not remembering correctly and I did buy 10 and 2 of them never grow much in a years time. I think they where about the size of the smallest two when I got them.

Take care,
Chuck

Chaos in B&W, who could have thunk it?

I thought I was bad quarantining wild fish for 3+ months.

I do the same thing. I buy 10-15 new fish at a smallish size to grow out. I put them into their own tank so it starts as Q and ends up permanent :-). I sometimes forget how many should be there.

I have no clue what your fish are, but they are pretty. And it just goes to show you, fish spawn on their schedule not ours.....

I am bad about that... often they go into a QT tank and that is where they stay!

I put them next to my L400 tank and I see little difference.... tail shape is a bit different from what I can see by eye. Their pattern is extremely different from one to the next.... but I see 3 with a lot more white than black. I may have to separate them out and see what I can get from them breeding.

Take care,
Chuck

Needing a QT tank is my standard excuse for adding another aquarium. ;-)

I would say yes. Check out the pics on L-Welse; there are pics of both striped and dotted specimens. Looks to be highly variable.
