Acestridium dichromum and others vs hair algae?

I just bought some Acestridium dichromum ('green whiptail'; 'green farlowella') and they came in with plump bellies, active, seen regularly on the glass. I gave them a fist-sized rock with a good growth of algae and will be making an algae garden for them soon (rocks in a bucket in a sunny spot outdoors, to grow algae so that I always have a new one to swap out for the one that's in there, if they and the L129s in the tank eat all of the algae on the present rock). I don't feel as rushed to get the algae garden going as I thought I would, these guys are so small that I'm sure that it will take a very long time for them to polish off what's there.

Any advice about them is welcome.
