Is this a Spotted Orange Seam or Gold Nugget Pleco
I usually buy s from a local breeder but he was low on them and I spotted this guy. He may have said the name but I don't remember it and now I am trying to find out what he is. At first I thought but he is a bit too dark from what I have found. Then I thought maybe he is a but his spots get a bit too erratic in the back half of his body and on his fins. Is he the Orange Seam but just young so his color has not lightend up a bit or do I have some hybrid?
Thanks

Hi zerodameaon,
That fish is neither of the species you mentioned. Based on head shape, I'd guess your fish is a very colorful , possibly a colorful common BN (), but possibly some other species. The fish looks young, and young plecos are often more colorful than the adults in many species.
If you can get more photos, for example of the lip (to check for budding BN style bristles), that might help. Otherwise please keep us posted with photos as it grows.
Cheers, Eric

I will keep an eye out for a good photo shoot opportunity with this guy. He/she is pretty young and what you said about being a colorful is likely true.
Here is a shot with it and one of the I usually get.
Though I am now not fully sold on it actually being a L144 as I am wondering if the pleco i asked about was one of the offspring of the yellow pleco's mother that is a mutation etc. I guess I should get a hold of the breeder and ask him whats going on.
I will post back when it gets a little older to see what happens to the color.
