Corydoras suggestions for Tapajos-Pimental

Post by jac »

I am setting up a Baryancistrus sp. L142 breeding project soon. The tank will be 1.50-50/60-30cm, filtered by sump and as biotope correct as possible (sand, wood, stones).
Just to make the tank a little more interesting I would like to add some corydoras to the set up. The species has be suitable to handle the high temperature, 28-32 degrees celsius, and a strong current/flow.
Preferably from Tapajos Pimental-Itaituba area.

Any suggestions? It's been a while since I had some cory's :)
Every great achievement begins with a dream ;-)

Hi Jacqueline,

corys usually are found in the smaller affluents that are considerable cooler than the main stream where most plecos are caught.
I cannot really recommend to you any cory if temperature will rise up to 32 °C and average temperature is around 30 °C.

There are certainly species that will survive (for a restricted time / in dry season) also 30 °C and perhaps even more, but a constant high temperature and corys is not a good combination.

Cheers,

Thank you for your reply Karsten. I'm afraid there will be little choice...
I was however pointed out to species from the Mato Grosso. They endure high temperatures as well.
Would this be an option or do I really have to skip corydoras for this breeding tank?

Would there be any species of barb or small salmon that could be added to the tank? I know that is a bit off topic....

Hi there - there are actually two kinds that are known to tolerante higher temperatures:
- corydoras sterbais
- corydoras haraldschultzi
Have fun
