Well, I'm looking at it just now. It appears to be that the textContent property of the content object is undefined. I'm currently learning how to either test to avoid this or perhaps do some sort of variable declaration that avoids the problem. Will I leave it for now?

Cheers,

Jools

I think I've fixed it in R920 - at least it works in IE9 with that fix (and in Chrome).

It's a little more code [and I took the oppurtunity to move a few things around that weren't where they should be, logically]

Fix found here:

Another MS anomaly safely navigated! Thanks Mats.

OK guys, that's the techno-chatter done with, can you confirm the issue is now resolved?

BTW, this work by Mats introduced the new species mapping tool that you can see under the shiny new "Distribution of selected species" section on the family pages. This gives a quick and easy visual view of where a family of catfish is found (and readily highlights gaps and errors in the map data). I need to tart it up a little bit and will then announce it formally.

Cheers,

Jools

Excellent! Did you like the "map" by the side of the list of species...

Hi MatsP,
Nice work.
I'm on IE8 now as at work.
The error messages have gone away.
However so has the map.

I get this error (I have some error setting on, so I get the done with errors on page messages in the bottom left corner of the browser)

------Start of error message
Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E)

Message: 'DOMParser' is undefined
Line: 163
Char: 2

------End of error message
I'm not sure if it really matters that much, IE8 you don't get the map.....

Cheers

The Cat-eLog errors have gone away for me too. Thanks much, Mats and Jools!

I can see the maps just fine. They are a nice addition.

Geoff, if you promise to buy me a beer next time we're in the same place (November, maybe?), I'll see if I can fix this just for you... :)

I hadn't noticed it, but I do like it.

However, being especially interested in Uruguayan fishes, it's a disappointment to se no Uruguayan loricarids are taken in the Cat-elog.

There are plenty, Loricaria, Rhineloricaria, Otocinclus, Hisonotus, Ancistrus, Hypostomus to name the few genera I have held in very own hands.

I was loking for Hisonotus to veryfy which species I could have bred - but for lack of data, it will remain unclear. I only know where I collected them - in this case in 2006

Hi Mats,
Sure I'll buy you a beer b-)
Not sure this year whether I'll be able to do November, depends on a number of things that may be out of my control.....

I'm unsure as to the status of this. I did get plenty of beer at the L-number days so will do a quick check to see what happens..

I think it was the "sub issue" that Geoff reported that was the remaining problem?

Hi,
I dont get any error, but I dont get a map, anywhere........

Also got this when trying to use the advanced? search to bring up a family:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'WHERE arn_genera.family_id=4 AND arn_species.genus_id=191 AND arn_families.order' at line 18 [1064]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

If you don't mind, can you raise a different thread for "search results" don't work. I found a bug to do with showing images in the search-result page, but that isn't giving the error you are reporting, so you probably need to give a bit more detail as to exactly what you have done (I randomly picked Astroblepidae as the family to show, that may of course be a factor?).

There is a bug in the map code right now that makes it not work in some (many?) javascript engines. It's probably been there for a quite some time (and was part of an attempt to fix the IE bug of this thread, at least as far as I can tell). This has been fixed, but I don't think it's uploaded to the site yet. I'm not sure if that fixes your "no maps anywhere" problem...

Edit: When I went to submit the fix for the problem I describe above, I found that Jools had already fixed it. I think Jools has also fixed the minor bug that he introduced at the time, and that should work now... Or at least when Jools gets round to uploading R1392 that I've just fixed that bit in...

Good, that problem solved then...

When you say "I don't get a map anywhere", does that mean "You expect to see a map, but there isn't one", or "It's not there, and I don't expect one" (the latter being the case with older versions of IE, but should work OK with a more recent IE version, and any other browser of reasonably modern age).

I mean that on individual pages in the cat-e-log where there is the little thumbnail of a map and it says click for the distribution, then clicking gets me nothing.
And on the family type pages in the distribution section there is the space taken up by the map, but no map.
It may be that that is the intended functionality for ie8, and also, I will only have ie8 for another few weeks, so it doesn't actually worry me personally, as I may be the last person in the world left on ie8 b-)

Cheers

It is indeed the intended functionality in "Old MS browsers". Maybe we could have a "nicer message", but I spent quite some time trying to make it work, and it's simply broken.

Yup, we can only really support current version and minus one. In MS IE terms, that's version 11 and 10.
