Help Breeding my L100 PLECOS

Post by TheCichlidKid15 »

Ok guys, I have my 2 pairs of L100 plecos in a 20 gallon long with a bare bottom, temp is at 80 degrees, I have a huge airstone plus an air blower blowing across the front of 5 caves, I feed them a mix of all different stuff, the females are nice and plump and the males sit in the beginning of the cave almost waiting for the females to enter. I do a 50% water change once a week and i also tried Ken's black-water brand liquid that encourages spawning. The only other thing I could think of is adding R/O water? What do you guys think? If I should add R/O water, do i make it on my own or can I buy it from somewhere? Thanks for the help guys, I just started getting into breeding the plecos, ps I also have a nice piece of driftwood in their tank for them just in case.

The fine spots on them are very difficult to see especially with a camera phone taking pics!

These didn't seem much more difficult than the normal Ancistrus once the female conditioned. The trick was about a three week dry season to get them to fatten up good. After that, they would spawn with a plain tap water change. My pH runs about 8.6 most of the time, so I doubt that has anything to do with spawning.

When I first started keeping them, I was using kensfish sticks. I changed over to Repashy shortly after that. They spawned with both foods, but the Repashy increased the spawn size dramatically. My female died, assuming the male injured her during the last spawn. However, spawn size increased from ~60 to over 150 feeding the soilent green.

One point that may be important, the temp was a rather consistent 83 degrees during the spawns. Water changes dropped that a bit for a short time. Xingu plecos don't tend to spawn well at lower temperatures.
