Unidentified Rineloricaria... (lots of picks)

Post by Birger Amundsen »

This is F1`s, from an original group from Norman Behr. I spoke to him for about an hour ago (he`s in Norway)

He has lost his group, so the fish in Norway is the remaining ones, as far as he said, and the first one bred as well.

Given the name Rineloricaria sp "Argentina"

I got 5pcs from the one who breeds them in norway... Any thought on them? They are juveniles, ans one is a subadult...

Let's start by saying that these fish are definitely not easy to identify. And from what I understand, Norman Behr is to Loricariinae what Ingo is to the Pleco group. So if he says it's X, then I would think that is the nearest you'll get. I may be wrong...

These are the species that fishbase list as from Argentina (note that not all are certain to occur in Argentina):

Code: Select all

Rineloricaria catamarcensis native
Rineloricaria felipponei native
Rineloricaria isaaci native
Rineloricaria lima native
Rineloricaria microlepidogaster native
Rineloricaria misionera native
Rineloricaria pareiacantha questionable
Rineloricaria parva native
Rineloricaria phoxocephala questionable
Rineloricaria thrissoceps questionable
But there are, I think, nearly as many Rineloricaria as there are Ancistrus. They just haven't been all sorted out yet (oh, and some are listed in the Cat-eLog as Hemiloricaria instead of Rineloricaria.

Hi Birger,

I got this species next to 2 others as Rineloricaria misionera, but it isn't. :-)
The area of collection shall be the Misiones Region of Argentina.
Unfortunately in this region there are a plenty of undescribed species of the genus Rineloricaria.
I compared the 3 species of Rineloricaria I got from a "Misiones" import with the described species of this region. But nothing really fit.
I hope they will still kept and breed in hobby, as you will do.

cheers
Norman
