1. Yes

2. Yes, although others have reported aggression problems when not enough hiding spaces were provided.

3. Probably not. The sound they make is a low buzz, kind of like one a pager in vibrating mode makes.

If you go to John Friel's website at Cornell University, you can listen to the stidulations the fish make. There is a link 2/3rds down the page to a sample .wav file.

http://cumv.bio.cornell.edu/friel/

You won't misinterpret it once you hear it.

There are also several links to .pdf files of his publications. Very useful links indeed.

Sincerely,

Hi,
He wont keep you up all night because he croaks rarely and even if he croaks the sound is not that loud to wake you up.

My Platydoras and Orinocodoras are in a tank in my bedroom and they'll make some noise after all the lights in the room are out, some splashing about as well. It's not worse than the outside noise of traffic and such, you'll get used to it. Sleep tight

The only fish that may keep you up is a large P. nigrolineatus. It's not just the chewing that's loud, the sound of those teeth rasping against the glass is quite unique. A bit like fingernails on a blackboard.
