Does anybody know if anyone has breed a Cory that's half bronze half albino?

Sounds unlikely, but I guess it's possible - we do get piebald Ancistrus, which is a "blotchy colouration deficency".

This colouration is common on fishes that have had a stroke .
Half the head is blackend after the trauma right down the centre of its skull.
I am not trying to be negative, I have seen it a few times usually on cichlids

I've caught bream and carp which are "two-tone" (with the first half of the body darker or, more usually, lighter than the rest of the body), and had a male Geophagus which had the same thing- in the cichlid's case it reverted to normal after a couple of months. I think I've only ever seen one fish (not counting flatfish, ha-ha) which had pigment on one side but not the other, however (judging by the picture) hoplo's cory lacks pigment on both sides for most of the scutes, but has a few areas on both sides with pigment.

If it wasn't for the red eyes, I'd say this is more of a xanthic individual- mainly white/yellow/pink with odd smatterings of colour. I'd say it's more likely to be the result of a mutation than a stroke or stress that's caused it.

I have seen a few fish (always cich lids) like the above cory before - but it always ened up dying soon. They were also always very quiet

However, a cichli d is not a catfish, so I did not think of mentioning these bofore, untill Sojapat referred to a stroke

A stroke is something what happens in the brain, and it is well known the left brain half controls the right hand side of the body, and the other way around. So anything which is only ound on one side of the body could very well be related to something in the brain, especially if the border is precisely in the middle of the back (as is here the case) or on the front

Therefore, when I read sojapats comment, I thought this could very well explain what has happened. To me, unexplainable deaths bother me a lot (what did I do wrong) this is a relief. Thanks, Sojapat

Hi Guys,

Sorry i have not been back on, its busy busy busy here, we are renovating the fish house.

Hes about 3-4 months old and about 1" with tail fin.
I noticed there was an albino in the tank when the fry were a week old.
When feeding them i would check to see if the albino one was ok, sometimes i saw it, sometimes not, when i did notice it, it was feeding and growing just like the rest and just like you would expect an albino bronze to be.
As time as gone by i never thought any thing more.
Then Andy was catching some and noticed a patchy one and call me over, as we was looking i notice it had one red eye and one black eye.

Its (hes) growing well, feeding well just like any healthy young Cory. (fingers crossed)

A stroke (blockage of oxygenated blood to the brain causing necrosis of brain tissue) wouldn't cause a red eye I wouldn't have thought. In fact, I think it has to be born that way. An odd mutation.

Sure, anything with a pulse can have a stroke, and I am sure it happens with the fish mentioned above, but it doesn't explain the albino eye in this case.

It'd be interesting to document with more pics.

Of course it is possible for them to breed. Most albino cories that are sold are simply albino versions of the bronze corydoras.

I recently have had a spawning between a female bronze cory and a male albino. So far I have about 7+ fry from this pair. All of the babies are an almost translucent beige/nude color, with darker colored spots (reminds me of snakeskin, actually) with black eyes. All babies are healthy and eager eaters just like their parents.

What I don't know is if they will lose their color as they age, or become darker like their mother, or remain a blend of both parents as they are now.

If anyone knows about the coloration changes of cories as they age, that would be great - <e-mail removed>
