I have a trio of that are in a bare bottomed 55 gal tank. The three of them appear to be very happy in there but I am looking for suggestions for tank mates for them since the tank appears to be basically empty. Any suggestions that will provide some activity in the tank, yet not be a problem when and/or if spawning happens. Currently the three are around 6" each.

Re: Tank mates for Hoplosternum Littorale
These fish grow a little bit too large for a standard 55g tank... A 75g tank would be a bit more suitable.
As for tank-mates, I would think most fish that aren't tiny or overly aggressive/boisterous would work well.
Of course, nearly any fish will cause a problem if they breed - at least once the eggs hatch.
