Is that stress coloration? <i>Ompok pabda</i> usually has a faint but distinct stripe along the body.

nope he always looks like that. I dont think hes stressed. When he does appear stressed it seems to have a dark spot either side of the body just below the head. Tear shaped not round. Do you want another pic? He always seems very transparent. But with very light mottling.

Then it's not <i>O. pabda</i>. Might be <i>O. pabo</i>, but the barbels seem too long. One other possibility is one of the Southeast Asian species belonging to the <i>O. bimaculatus</i> group. I think a better picture will emerge when the fish is older.

thanks alot HH, Thats very interesting. I have sent some more pics to jools so maybe you can get a better idea from those when if he posts them. I'll take more pics at a later date.

Darn!

I just read this post after putting the pics online as <I>O. pabda</I>. I will move to correct ID once we have some "in tank" shots showing the colouration of this fish in a settled environment.
