It's some sort of pencilfish isn't it?

That was my first guess, but can't ever remember seeing one like that in the 10 years I worked at a tropical fish store, although maybe it's just the angle of the fish that's maming it look different.
Thanks Richard

How's that for spooky!
Went to my LFS after work Friday and they had just received a shipment of Nannostomus marginatus, along with some Galaxy Rasboras.
I had already decided to return my Emperor Tetras as they were just too voracious food-wise and was becoming concerned that the tatis would not get a decent share of the food if they stayed - funnily enough, the day after removing the emperors, I saw two of the three tatias perching on bulging bellies from a feast of bloodworm the previous evening, so I am a little less concerned now.
I ended up replacing the tetras with a shoal of 7 rummy-nose tetras (Hemmigrammus rhodostomus) and four marbled hatchets (Carnegiella strigata). Think I may go and pick up a few of the Nannostomus marginatus next week (probably only 4 or 5) as was keen to let them settle in at my LFS. I was initially tempted by the Galaxy Rasboras, but just did not like them as much - maybe it's just me but they look like miniature freshwater trout, and their swimming style was, to me anyway, abnormal.
Anyway, thanks to Bennyvis for inspiring me
Regards
Martin

With regards your latest post, again, absolutley stunning images - well worthy of a magazine or book. I am trying with a Nikon Digital SLR with an 18-55 but am getting nothing like your images :( . I'm guessing you are using manual settings? Am very envious
I managed to find myself some trifasciatus, but finding marginatus doesn't seem so easy.

If you have a D50 or some such, you should be able to get pretty decent results.
You probably need to get it to use ISO1600 or higher to get decent results.
Using auto-settings should be OK, as long as you can adjust the ISO (on my Canon, the "full auto" settings will give you only ISO100-400 as the camera sees fit).

Thanks Mats - have a D40x so will try and see about changing the ISO and see what I get.
I'm trying to catch a shot my to confirm he is just that, but as with the other two bulldogs I have, he/she is very skittish and will disappear as soon as I move toward the tank.
Thanks again

Fantastic photos of beautiful fish.

I wonder if your gravel might be a bit sharp looking for the Corys???

The gravel looks fine to me. If it wasn't, the cories wouldn't have nice looking barbels.

the gravel isn't sharp fortunately, but i had to use finer sand, that was a mistake when i was setting up the tank :( , next time... :!:

I expect the algae wafers are Hikari ones, which are about 1.5cm, or about 0.6" in diameter.

Mine are Tetra Pleco Wafers, only around 1cm. They look like they're just cut from a sheet of algae paste and dried. They actually taste OK, but it's the aftertaste that gets you!

I use a compactcamera: Nikon coolpix P80 and i only use the cameraflasher, no extra flash above the tank.
drgold wrote:beautiful pictures of beautiful fish! If I might ask, at what temperature are you keeping your rhinogobius wui? Any tips on their care?
the temperature in the rio 240 tank is 24 to 26 celsius, but rhino's prefer cooler water, about 22 degrees celsius, they are easy to keep, deepfrozenfood like bloodworms, dapnia's ,artemia's, they like sometimes shrimppallets as well.
