lifespan of eupterus...

Post by owi »

Hi just how old eupterus can be ?
just curious....
is there any site that have the approximate lifespan of various cat fish ?
I have 5 eupterus (about 10cm) for 2 years how old will still the life ?
nothing more beautiful than Synodontis....
nothing as irritating as synodontis
nothing as impossible as breeding synodontis

Don't know specifically on S. eupterus, but syno's in general live quite a long life - it's not unheard of the larger species getting into their 20's in captivity.

I had a eupterus for 12+ years, not sure how old it was when I got it though. It was fully grown already.

I know of many synos that have got to the high 20s & i think i read somewhere of a 30+ year old fish. yours do have a way to go yet! :D
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

One of my oldest fish is a eupterus. I raised it from a baby and have had it since about 1990 or so. Damn fish will probably outlive me, but he's a nice guy and a good citizen in his tank, so that's fine.

i once read an article in a book about syno flaviteniatus and the specimin in one of the musuems (i think it was in holland ) was older than 30 years and still going strong !
so if i was force into a corner i would say if they are well cared for in a large enough tank for there needs i-e: with no water/filter/bullying by other fish problems etc then 15-25 years would be a fair guess on most med-large synos but there will always be cases where some out live the general guidelines .
