hybred pleco questions

Post by mjd74 »

I have seen on these forums a lot of posts about people speaking out about the hybred plecos that have seemingly started making their way into the hobby.

My first question is why are people against these fish?

the second, which ones are hybred in order to know wich plecos we should avoid?

I know of the fancytail pleco wich is a hybred from scandinavia, but what others???

There aren't actually many hybrid plecos in the aquarium trade. Hybrids are crosses between two species, whereas long-finned bristlnoses are actually artificial strains of naturally-occurring species. much like albino bristlenoses.
As to why some people here are against artificial strains of the fish, see this thread.

I know Hypancistrus Hybrids, but it was "bad luck" and not wanted.

Come on, not the hybrid topic again. It has already been discussed in this forum too often. Everybody should have his own opinion torwards hybrids. My opinion is that if I know that a fish is a hybrid I wouldn't buy it.

Agreed. There's more than enough threads on this subject.
