Rantosa,
Your fish is LDA 68. LDA 68 and Panaque maccus (Ndoboi's fish is P. maccus) are very often mixed together in shipments. They come into Bogota from Villvicencio already mixed together. I do not know if this is because they are collected together or if the collectors just mix them together because they do not see them as two different fish. Exporters in Bogota do not distinguish between the two fish.

Looks like you Kiwis are getting your fish from the same places we are over here in Oz
Couple of q's for ya -
What are the Kiwi importation laws like?
What sort of L#s are available to you?
How much are you paying for your catties (if you dont mind saying)?
well we have alot of L numbers but most grow big so cannot really breed them. I would say about 50 Lz. They can range anywhere from $70 to $230. bristle nose about $6 to $15 (adult) L144 $30+
i dont know where these came from sorry
WOW!
Much cheaper than over here where you can pay up to $1k for a L046. Depending on where you get them we generally pay $1per cm for BNs. The bottom has just fallen out of the albino/gold BNs and they're being found in LFS for $3.50 (2cm). L104s - up to $220. Most of the rarer stuff is over the $200 mark.
Looks like we have finally got some L144 available, but they're $180ea....
hoestly they(L144)are so easy to breed, just get a pair and you will make your money in no time..
I had 2 females and a male, then the male died and after that i just gave up on them.
But at the moment i have 3 females and a male that i am growing up and will start on them soon.
Wow the L144's look nice dont they, $180 is kinda expensive for a bn i suppose but if you really want it then it might pay to shop around and see who can get them. There is a good shop that can check on it for u. Msg me if you're interested and i'll give u the details.
Just a girl trying to make her way in the pleco world
$180 is definitely expensive for a normal bristlenose, but L144's are all traced back to a SINGLE male imported to Germany. Make sure however that they are REAL L144 (black eyes) and not just albino "commons", which have red eyes.
As far as I understand, L144 isn't terribly hard to breed, but you need to have a pair first...
Mats,
You are right on. L 144 has been misinterpreted as the common name for albino Ancistrus sp. 3. The actual L Number refers to a specific line descended from a single male and I doubt any of these have ended up in Oz given the import restrictions there and the recent development (1993) of L144.

Shane, the L144s im referring to havent been confirmed yet - they're being advertised as bushynosed bristlenose but are definately not Sp#3 albinos. They are a recent 'import', if you know what i mean.... Im trying to track down some more details.
