Feeding and care of the Chubby Pl*co (P. aurantiacus)

Post by jen.nelson »

I acquired a Chubby Pl*co (Parancistrus aurantiacus) about 2 months ago. He was in my outdoor tub pond for a while, but I got tired of never seeing him and moved him into the aquarium, where he's settled right in. He actually seems to dig his own "caves" under the overhangs of he driftwood, and defends his chosen spot from the occasional errant cory cat. I might catch him actually out and about if I turn on the lights at night, otherwise, he's basically furniture with eyes and moving gills. Which is OK.

I never see him eat. Due to other tank inhabitants, he's got a variety of sinking foods (some for carnivores, some algae wafers) available, as well as occasional bloodworms and brine shrimp, and parboiled zucchini. I feed a little bit several times a day, including a feeding before lights-out.

I'm just looking to get some input on things I could consider to make sure that he's happy. All manner of thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Jen
