I've got a few things to do before going home. I will post a question later on (in about 2 hours, I expect).

Took a bit longer.
1. My describer was honoured by a species of cichlid, which in turn was described by Stawikowski.
2. I'm from Venezuela.
3. Sidguppy would probably like me, if I didn't grow a bit too big.

This is a semi-random guess, so probably wrong..?

You want big, have a look at photo #5

(It would actually be a good enhancement to the clog tag to be able to specify which of the available images pops up when you hover the mouse on it.. As far as I can tell it only allows the first image? e.g. In this case being able to say:

Code: Select all

[clog=5]Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii[/clog]
would do the trick..

Or are you referring to a species name?

yup, that's my kind of fish!

actually i do have a Pterodoras in my showtank, a 45 cm long P granulosus.
it's a temporary guest from someone at the cichlidforum who's in the process of moving house and he couldn't find a tank to keep this monster.

so i volunteered......
there's also a smaller Megalodoras sticking around and that's another real beauty

the one drawback of both is not the size, but the fact that they go totally Auchenipterid on me: as in virtually invisible

wich shows you that I have plenty hiding space, if fish this size can be completely invisible in my tank.

so much for guests.

smart thinking

but unless streetvocabulary has changed a lot, "horse" used to be heroine
and heroine is an opium derivate, not an amphetamine.

amphetamines are uppers, the most common name (over here) is "speed", mdma (XTC) is also wellknown

I broke my head over finding some catfish called Velociglanis or something, but couldn't find one.

6) a color is involved with the species and common name.

uhuh

a "streetname" wich isn't known by anyone else

not much of a common street then.......
maybe it's a name only used in a back alley in some unknown town where nobody comes except collectors of rare and strange drugs?

arcuatus doesn't mean super.

according to the hints the translation of the latin speciesname should be the common name.

i don't know what "arcuatus" means, but it doesn't mean 'super"
