Some hobbyists have used cafepress.com to make stuff. They take a cut of the sale, but most of the money would go to Planet Catfish. Don't have any experience w/ them though.

The only other problem I foresee is the question of who taking up the responsibility of making and selling the shirts.
Since we have forum members from all over the world, I would imagine that this is no small expenditure of time and effort.

There is an alternative to Cafepress, I know the owner of this printing works and he will cut us a deal for quantity.

One more thing... I could see where it could get time consuming filling orders.. but all you would really need to do is get the supplier, get some pre orders, and only use Paypal. Once done... just fill the orders as they come on in and ship them off!! Tack on the various shipping charges and voila........ happy happy people!!

I would volunteer.... but I have no contacts in the shirt making dept!!

Sorry

This is something I could do (along with the usual array of baseball caps mugs, mousemats and the like). Would be nice to get branded fishkeeping essentials. A planetcatfish.com bucket would be a winner!

Anyway, leave it with me, I see there is indeed interest. I could do with the revenue stream to help offset running costs.

I once handpainted a T-shirt for my cousin (who gave me the bug back in 1974)
using special clothespaint wich sticks on , through washing. (the kind, you fix with ironing)
It has a Chaca on the front and two Synodontis multipunctatus on the back....
took me quite some time, though.

A t-shirt with the planetcatfish-logo would be cool; that Heteropneustes up front with the globe!
btw I've got an old German catfishbook, that has exactly that cat in it; you used the same book, to get the logo?

btwII: I'll buy a T-shirt if you guys start printing 'em, and I know some others who will too

Maybe we should suggest a couple of designs or make a contest to come up w/ the best logo for a shirt. Obviously my vote is for a Loricariid but would happily purchase any shirt available. :P

OK, a competition for logos etc would be pretty good starting point. I have a number of catfish images I can use too.

I will be doing T-shirts, long sleeeved shirts, polo shirts, mugs, mouse mats and coffee coasters at least.

You will be able to pay securely by credit card or paypal (I think) and we can ship worldwide.

Leave it with me, but please keep discussing and post some logos. BTW, when creating logos for this sort of thing, we need em BIG. Like 1200-2000 pixels, but you should resize them before posting them here.

How good this gets relies on you guys...

Just thought of one possibility...

A joke here in norway goes like this: A person shows someone a standard piece of white paper with a black dot in the middle, and the person with the paper asks "What is this". The other one don't understand what it is and replies "don't know..."
Then he is told that the right answer is "polar bear in a snowstorm" (the black dot being the nose...) haha :p

Hypancistrus zebra is black and white too so maybe a shirt could be made with only the black stripes of zebra and nothing else. If making more than one type of t-shirt is a possibility, maybe this could be an alternative? :)

Hey, I've heard of that joke, all the way here in Singapore!

I love the L046 idea for the t-shirt. But there should be an outline of a pleco, otherwise people around may think that the t-shirt's from the zoo - of a four-legged zebra! :D

Jools,

Re: the logo we could have 2 or 3 different logos. I don't how that would affect the price... but it would offer some variety.

I think at least one of the three should be that Heteropneustes up front with the globe. It just embodies this site and everyone who comes here.

just put the image and saying on the back. (I like the Mark Twain saying AND the image on the Enter page btw for the back.) On the front just have a small logo like the Heteropneustes with the globe and small letters "Planet Catfish" at left breast "pocket" area.

T-shirts with fairly plain fronts and the design on the back are easier to wear around in public. I definitely would NOT wear a shirt with a big picture on the front. Speaking as a woman, it just doesn't flow well around the "accessories."  . BUT, picture on the back (especially that Twain saying with the zebra --hint,hint)-- sign me up!!

Mugs would be a good idea too.

Stacey:

Great idea! - as a fellow woman you may agree with me not to make the shirts in too large sizes (the classic big US T-shirts-ugly thing. . ) - Urh. . of course it depends on which size one is. .

Just to let you know this is still on my "to do" list. Maybe get some time to spend on it next weekend. Just a bit busy clearing the decks for the 900 odd slides Johnny Jensen took last weekend...

I think we have a group of pleco enthusiasts in Singapore who will support the project if the design emphasised on a L number

Stibolt, you can contact the forum director, Jeff (lighterrr@yahoo.com) to link up. I've sent him a mail to notify him about this project.

I wish we willl be linked up soon.
