Corydoras ID

Post by AcidicAngel »

Hi everyone, new here :) My friend just bought this cory and although I think it's a very washed out(was with a breeding pair of Firemouths and no other cories, no plants or places to hide in the shop) C. Trilineatus. My other friend thinks it's a C. Sodalis. Now, I've looked at your Catfish files and Sodalis doesn't have a large black splodge on it's dorsal but Trilineatus does. Opinions?

Photo's, sorry they are not the best :(

Thanks anyone :)

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice there was an ID section :/

That was my second thought but I thought the body was slightly different. Like I say, it is very washed out at the moment :)
The body on my friends looks deeper to me :)

Is CW061 the same as Sp.(C061)? If so they look nothing like each other... I'm confused, I'm not the best with CW/C numbers for corys :-\

There are two different categories for C and CW numbers in the Cat-eLog.

The dorsal marking looks wrong :( The marking on CW061 is a stripe all the way through, these have a round spot not a stripe...

Hi,

if you take a closer look the dorsal fin marking is variable in CW061.
In general the body proportions are more important to look at with corys, CW061 seems to be a more slender species than C. reticulatus.
I would still say it's CW061 and not C. reticulatus. These are definitely not C. sodalis or C. trilineatus or any other (known) species.

I guess you don't have any information of the origin of the corys ?!

Cheers,

Nope XD I know the basics like Peppered, Pygmy, Bronze, Albino, Panda... And some others because I have bred them at some point in my life but I'm not all up on Cory's. Only the more simple and easy to come by ones.

Kampher,

I am afraid Racoll is not right, if you look at the true the body pattern is bolder and is dark brown and has a mat appearance, has a dark silvery pattern that is finer. is very similar to , but carries the black blotch in the dorsal fin, this blotch can vary from specimen to specimen.
