Standard Pleco

Post by gkh »

I'm new to the forum and I'm interested in identifying the name of my plecos. They are the standard plecos sold in pet stores in the US. They are rather dark brown without any distinguishing markings or colorations. Mine have grown in size to up to 18 inches.

Thanks for your help

Those are almost certainly Liposarcus pardalis, though the occasional Hypostomus pops up. Count the number of dorsal-fin rays, Liposarcus has 11-13 and Hypostomus 7-8.
