Sick Sailfin Pleco please help!

Post by Hawkesy »

Hi

My sailfin is about 6-8 inches kept in my Juwel Rio 240 community tank. It is a mature tank with a pretty light stock and no fish who are a threat to the plec. He's my favourite fish so I'm really worried about him.

Basically he seems to have stopped eating over the last couple of weeks. Algae is building up on logs something that has never happened during his stay in the tank. He also doesn't seem to have been eating algae tabs, catfish pellets or even bloodwrom.

I hadn't seen much of him lately and decided to move some decor tonight to get a better look. He is very lethargic whereas normally he would be at other end of tank before my hand can get near him. His waste seems rather light coloured which I guess may be a symptom of an internal bug of some sort. Other than this there is no visible sign of illness.

Does anyone have any ideas of possible illnesses and ideally treatments?

Sounds like some kind of intestinal parasite. There have been several posts about this in the forum.
