Hello, I live in Nashville, TN and no I do not listen to country music. LOL. I have been keeping fish on and off since I was a teenager. I pretty much gave it up when my children were young, I have 5 and they are ages 23 to 36 now. I have been back into fish for the last 7 yrs, I started out with a...

Dang, hate to hear that. Here in Texas if we have a little ice it shuts us down--did back in 2000, killed all of my uncle's fish except his weather loaches (coldwater, of course). Power was off for 2 weeks. If you decide you want to get back into the multis let me know. In the spring I'll break dow...

Re: Bumming but will recover.....
What made it was devastating as it was, was that it came so early, all the trees have most of their leaves yet. Big healthy trees were snapping apart under the all the extra weight of snow/ice. If it were to come at the end of the month, the same trees would have been fine since they'd have been bar...

Bumming but will recover.....
We had a major snow storm on 10/29. I lost power for 5 days, just got it back today. My tanks dropped to 55*F. I've lost most of my fish including my male abn, 11 babies, my two pairs of S. multipunctata and most of my african cichlids. I just have a few yellow Labs left, 1/2 dead male Ngara peacock...

Well, I wanted to have mix of fish from the same river with the plecos being the key species. I wanted to mix the others so the tank doesnt look "empty" and have listen to my wife complain that theres nothing in the tank. She's not an aquarist. Unless its got alot of gaudy decorations &...

Rio Xingu biotope inquiry
I've been kicking around the idea, if my wife lets me set up a 2nd tank, I'd want to do a Rio Xingu biotope. Not much on net that I can find other then zebra tanks. Zebra's are not going to happen with my my budget. If you were to set up a Xingu tank, what would you stock it with? so far I can find ...

Took a video of mine to help out. I threw some shrimp pellets in for video # 2. I hate shrimp pellets, they're so messy. Also two of my Labs had just spawned so my multi's were a bit rammy. http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/gg257/exasperatus2002/Fish%20tank/?action=view¤t=Synodontiscats00...

Re: Synodontis sp. 'Goldeneye'
I have one similar to that. Was supposed to be a multi. I got it as at an inch from someone who bred it like a S. multipunctatus. But, its very shy compared to the 3 wild caught multi's I have it with. Deffinately has a different swagger to it then other multies. Someone once suggested its grandiops...

Re: higher temps/oxygenation levels
That was a good read. Thank you. Hi all, At 24.0oC, at mean sea level and 1013mb pressure, pure water (H2O) is saturated with 8.3mg/l O2. At 34.0oC with only 7.0mg/l O2, so yes temperature is important. You can ignore the effects of added solutes (what we call water is rarely H2O, and usually a dilu...

higher temps/oxygenation levels
With Plecos that your keeping at higher then "typical" fish temperatures like L-333 or L-046. What methods do you use to increase oxygen saturation? In alot of the photos posted, I havent noticed a spraybar in the back of the tanks. So Im assuming, the prefered method is to have a power he...
