Nice fish! Taking both the body form and the color pattern into consideration, I personally feel that the fish is Ageneiosus polystictus.

my LFS used to have 2 (1.2 footer) abt 2 months back.

seems like they don't do well during transportation. cos one didn't make it few days after landing and the other speciment took many many weeks just to stablize.

It's a lot more clear if you type the whole name.... I mean, typing the rest of your question used as many letters and more to finish "opimelodus". otrherwise we might think you are talking about Pseudoplatystoma, Pseudostegophilus, Pseudodoras, Pseudocetopsis etc   Oops, than...

They appear to be quite hardy, although I have never let my water params slip, so this observation is basically based on the amount of food that they can eat and the waste produced. Growth is fairly slow (in my experience) with mine going from 11" to 20" in about 12 months, mind you I hav...

Cool Fish. Expensive in the UK + rarely encountered these days. Biggest I've seen had a length of approx 18 inches and cost £295 (GBP). Feisty when younger and very aggressive from subadult on. They have wide heads with a gape 1/4 of their body length, making most other fish fair game. As quoted i...
