Re: Question about Water Chemistry / Tank Setup

sorry if my last post was cut off somewhat, i was trying to rush the post before setting off to work :/ so my plan of attack at the moment is to try and put some coral sand in the tank, (a little at a time to measure and changes in the water), in the mean time im adding extra bicarb to the water i p...

Re: Question about Water Chemistry / Tank Setup

Hiya Apisto. unfortunately the local water supply is pretty dire, the water around here would naturally be soft and acidic, so to prevent corosion they pump it full of aluminium salts to up the pH, we end up with sky high pH yet soft water. I found this out after nearly loosing all my stock after ch...

Re: Question about Water Chemistry / Tank Setup

Thank you all for your input, much food for thought. just to correct something, the tank isnt moving from 7.5 down to below 6, sorry if that wasnt clear, the tank water is dropping from approx , 6.5 - 6.6 down to my waterchange trigger lvl which is below 6. the rebuilt water that goes back into the ...

Re: Question about Water Chemistry / Tank Setup

Hi Bas Thanks for the reply, the high pH is due to using bicarb for rising the kH, hence i dont want to add too much more. The water chemistry i was aiming for originally, was aimed at keeping discus, where the soft water was more critical than the pH, i tried the same water on my hypancsistrus and ...

Question about Water Chemistry / Tank Setup

Hiya I keep three bare fish tanks, I use an RO filter then rebuild my water back up to pH 7.8 gH 4 kH 4 TDS is approx 200-220. Now my two breeding tanks are pretty stable, i use the kH /pH measurements to mearsure when to do a water change (takes about a week for the pH to drop down to 6 at which po...

Re: Flapping with fins

I came accross this also when my tanks pH dropped. Water changes and external filter strip down prevented a pH crash. If there all doing it then id be checking my water parameters, previously only the males had done this, i was alarmed as all of a sudden all my adults were doing it and the males wer...

Re: L-66, UK, Lancashire

i honeslty have no idea of value of these little beauts, the adults i paid between 18 and 25 pound a piece for, when they were obtainable by the average LFS. i was thinking they should bring £5-10 at 2"+ but that may take a while. if there is interest in taking them smaller then please message ...

Haavard Stoere wrote: If Baryancistrus demantoides is not really a Baryancistrus, and Hemiancistrus is a catch all genus of little significance.. Then maybee the two species are closely related after all?

Re: L-66 male on eggs in cave

Hi Barbie thanks for the quick reply. what would you do with the wriggler? put them back in the cave or keep them in the breeding trap? if the later then at which point are they safe to be returned to the main tank? I read somewhere that the fry wont be touched by adults but am unsure if to trust th...

Re: L-66 male on eggs in cave

Fantastic Pictures. I have 5 L66 in a 3foot tank, looks like i have 3 males, 1 female the last one is either female or a young male. Well they bred, only the male seems to be having problems keeping them in the cave and for the last couple of days ive been picking up wrigglers and placing them in a ...

Trying to identify a catfish i saw in LFS a long time ago

Hi I know this is a long shot but i figure its worth a try. I saw this catfish in a tank it was maybe 200 - 300mm in length, it looked quite similar to the larger bumblebee cats but it seemed much more stocky in build to the extent that at the time i described it as a belly with a mouth and a few to...
