Re: Heater Burns

Actually, the tank has rocks and caves which extend the total length of the tank. I was thinking that because of his armor, he can't really feel when the heater is getting warm. We get good algae growth on the back wall of the tank which I purposely don't scrape off, so he enjoys munching that. Perh...

Heater Burns

How do you prevent your pleco from resting under the heater and getting burn spots?

Re: New L200 Stopped Eating

Clown loaches have been in there for about seven years with no problems or injuries to themselves or others. They never bother the other fish. The brichardi, julie, and petricola cats are all about nine years old at this point. We originally went with Tangs due to lots of experience with African fis...

One more pic for what it's worth. He's been very active swimming around tonight after the lights were out. Still not sure if he's eating.

This is a picture from 10 pm tonight, when he was out on the wood. I didn't see any scrubbing going on though. Sorry for poor picture quality.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3781/13730458353_0c7058fece.jpg This is a panorama pic from my phone, so the tank appears like a bowfront, but it's not. Other than that, you can get a good idea of the layout of things. The green phantom has been hanging out between the backside of the wood and a fla...

Re: New L200 Stopped Eating

Ok, answered these as best I could. This morning the Green Phantom was out swimming around, still checking things out. This afternoon he found a place to settle between a slab of flat rock and the wood. 1. Water parameters Quarantine Tank- I measured ammonia every couple of days, and it always read ...

New L200 Stopped Eating

Hello, I bought a four inch L200 Green Phantom Pleco in beautiful shape. Nothing sunken in, clear skin, very spunky, held his fins out. I put him in a ten gallon quarantine tank, temp 80 degrees, with three algae covered rocks from my main tank. First day he didn't appear to eat, just settling in. S...

Re: Wardley algae wafers a big mess?

I use New Life Spectrum H2O stable wafers without a problem. I also put in only as much as my plecos will eat overnight. http://www.petstore.com/ps_ViewItem-SearchStr--action-view-idProduct-NL1353-idCategory-FIFDDRPTSWMS-category-New_Life_Spectrum_H2O_Stable_Wafer_125g_Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies_Fo...

I have a single four inch L91 and so far, he is very mild mannered. He just sits under his log during the day. I have two L075 - Peckoltia sabaji, about three inches, in the same tank with the L91. I have had no aggression problems yet. I hope I will not encounter aggression problems if the L91 does...

plecos sucking slime coat

I have been told that plecos will suck the slime coat off of sleeping fish at night. I have never personally had a problem with this. I can't imagine that a well-fed pleco would bother a healthy fish in this way. What are your experiences with this?

Food for a Leporacanthicus sp.?

I bought an L91 about a month ago. He is housed with two smaller L75s. I put in NLS wafers each night, and they are gone in the morning, but I don't know if it's just the L75s that are eating them, as I rarely see the L91 move from his hiding spot. I tried offering a slice of yellow zucchini that I ...

L91 (3 Beacon Pleco) and snails?

Will an L91 eat Malaysian trumpet snails? I know this pleco is in the vampire family, and thought I could feed him some trumpet snails from my other tank.

Gold Nugget Behavior?

I have read that Gold Nuggets are VERY territorial towards other plecos, including others of different species. Do they have to get to a certain size to become territorial? Does there have to be a female around for them to exhibit this behavior? What are your experiences with keeping them in a commu...

The spotted ones look like my Rio de Para plecos- L75. There's some good breeding information in the cat-elog.

I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 3 foot tank. IMO around a 4 foot tank is best. Since I've posted here, I went out to the fish store, and have been looking at tanks. I've been leaning toward a 40 gallon, 36 inch tank. The two L75's would be the only fish in it. I'm not sure exactly how big th...

best size breeding tank?

I have two L75 rio de para plecos that I think are a pair. I would like to give them their own tank and see if they breed. They are about three inches each. I beleive this species grows to about six inches. Do you think a 29 gallon (30 inch long) tank would be good for breeding, if my plecos are so ...

I'm thinking of setting up a 20 gallon long, for them. Maybe at that point I can post a picture of both from above. Right now, both of these fish are in a six foot tank with lots of rocks, and other fish, so getting a picture isn't very easy.

Lots of people have looked at this post, but no one has responded. I'm thinking the L75 is pretty rare since no one seems to have any information about it other than what is on the cat-elog.

Is this a female L75?

I have what I think could possibly be a pair. They are rio de para, L75. This is a picture of the one I think is a female. She seems much plumper than the male as of late, and she has grown a little bit bigger too. Her colors have never been as bright as his, although I don't know if this is a gende...
