Re: Hypancistrus crossbreeding
I kept some L46 and L260 together many years ago thinking they looked so dissimilar that they wouldn't hybridize and was unpleasantly surprised to find out that what I thought were baby zebras where L46/L260 hybrids. Since then I have never mixed Hypancistrus again. I don't think I will ever mix any...

I'd say I'm slightly interested but not really because I don't know what your doing with the fin clippings. DNA analysis. But what are you doing with the DNA analysis. What are you trying to find out? Are you going to publish your findings? Do you just want to do it to do it? What am I or the PC com...

Maybe we'd be more interested if you provided more details of what's involved on one's end. No one wants to touch their Zebras if they think its going to hurt or kill it. You haven't convinced me from this thread to do anything or that you even know what your doing yet as the post starts with you as...

Yes, thanks for sharing. I had heard they gave this talk there and was really disappointed I didn't get to hear it. Thanks for sharing some of the slides. Re: Gauging interest for my TR L183's
You should definently wait a couple months anyways as USPS express is horrible and a 30-40% chance of second day delivery. Too cold to mess around with 2nd Day deliveries this time of year. Also, 2 fry per box is like shipping an empty box with water. Why only 2 fish per box, baby plecos are very li...

Re: lost three aspi, no clue why
While your tank was cycled; it was only cycled enough to handle the load of a single tetra and the shrimp. Its very possible when you restocked your tank it cycled again as the bio load you put on it was significantly more than what it was currently handling. I'd do a ammonia, nitrite, nitrate check...

Re: Need help for xingu biotope
Larger tanks are great for the fish but in order to get fish to breed they also need very clean water and for me the problems with big tanks is the amount of water needed to do a 50% water change. I don't know how many gallons your tank holds but if its a 200-300 gallon your going to need 100-150 ga...

Re: water changes contreversy
There was an article in TFH or FAMA on this. It said something like a 20% water change only removes equivalent of 1 days worth of pollution. So by tomorrow it would be as if you never did the water change today. I change 50% 1-2 times a week on most of my tanks. Some times if I forget I'm draining a...

I think the idea of a paludarium is a very neat one. Your filter idea sounds doable. You didn't mention any tank information and how many gallons of water it would actually hold. I have no experience with that tetra but looks like it could possibly pose a threat to fry.

Re: Spawning group ratios
Usually when I buy fish I have to have them shipped so I don't get to pick out sex. To make sure I get some females in the mix I always order a minimum of 6 fish. Usually anywhere from 6-12 depending on the amount of money I have to spend at the time and the price of the fish. So most of my groups a...

With a PH of 8.4 I think your going to be hard pressed to spawn about any fancy pleco. I have heard of L204 being spawned at that PH though. You can get a decent RO unit for around $150. I used to run to the grocery twice a week before I got an RO unit. I should have just bought it up front. IME a R...

Re: Housing L239
The main problem with wild caught fish is acclimating them and making sure they don't have any bugs on them. The fish you mentioned will due fine at 8-8.4. Probably won't breed but will live just fine. I'd fill your 20 gallon up with half tap half RO. You should use a QT tank anyways. Acclimate your...
