As far as seeing your fish eat. About the only for sure way to do it for plecos is to dim the lights low and sit their motionless for awhile and then you will probably see them come out. If you spend a few hours on this website you should have all of the information you need on keeping your plecos. ...

I work at a fish store and I hate hearing "I'll buy it something bigger later or down the road." The odds are you will not purchase your pond even with the best of intentions. You may prove me wrong but buy the big fish after you have the big tank or pond. Large cats grow quick with good w...

I don't know if they are illegal in the UK but my store sells ghost shrimp which work good as a live food for alot of catfish. I don't know if that would be considered feeder fish or not?

I couldn't tell you how many gold nuggets i have lost over the years and its usually within the first week they pass away. As kwalker said they are usually hardy once established. Don't feel bad over losing one, that is just kind of the way that it goes with the species. I also work at a fish store ...

I have not kept the spotted but have kept the stripped for about 10 Years. I have 3 and they are huge and all somehow seem to fit in a cave that I have in their tank which you would not think would hold three large raphael's. Its amusing somtimes to watch them try to get out because they are so pack...

Nothing do to with your ick but make sure you feed him something other than just feeder goldfish all of the time. Not many creatures get all the nutrients they need off of one sole food. Mix it up and he will be happier!

Its quite possible since you've had no fish in your tank for so long that you may lack the beneficial bacteria you need to break down ammonia and nitrite. Pay close attention to those two chemicals at least for a month or so and if they get high you will need to do a water change. You should always ...

I looked through Larry Vires book and found no mention of the reference listed above. There is a disease section but he did not give specifics on medication nor did he specifically talk about whether he treated new fish or not. Unless he made more than one book, but I am not aware of it.

I work at a fish store and I can't recall ever loosing a L200. They are much hardier than alot of the other fancies, plus they show themselves alot more as well. I don't know how well they do on algae but the tanks they are in are usually prettty clean of algae and I rarely have to scrub the walls o...

I have kept several species of Doradid's with shovelnose and that seems to work very well. Occaisonly I seen the shovelnose go after one accidentally but they are so hard that the shovelnose had little affect. I kept a large lace cat(synodontis) for a few years with them and that seems to work well....

I presume you are talking about the white mucus film that you see floating in your tank. Depending on what fish you have in the tank, some fish will eat the mucus. I have kept serveral lima's for many years and mine pretty much just do it when they get spooked or sometime's my largest one does it wh...

I would use a couple of sponge filters for filtration instead of power filters. You don't want the microworms getting sucked up either. As far as your tank size, I only work with english units of measure. The tank does not need to be very tall, focus more on floorspace.

If you do bloodworms I have been the happiest with Hikari Brand. As with any frozen food if it gets thawed and refrozen then it is bad and should not be fed to your fish. Maybe this is why some of you have had problems. If it accidentally gets left out or something just pitch it.
