Re: corys and bushynose?

If I were you, I would change the gravel to sand, if you're planning to keep Corydoras. Also Ancistrus and L-cats like to have soft sand underneath their bellies, but to Corys I regard it as a must-have. I would never keep Corydoras on gravel. Fine sand is also more pleasing to look at. All fish thr...

Re: Your favourite Corydoras?

I think my favorite must be Corydoras adolfoi , the very first one I bred. I'd only had them for 3 weeks, wild caught fish and everything, when I suddenly found eggs on the glass one day. I think I must declare them as my first true love! ♥ And you never forget your first love, do you? :-) After the...

Re: Peppered Corys

I've had several Corys without barbels, for different reasons. A Corydoras without it's barbels will survive , but in my opinion they seem to be a bit sad and unhappy. They're not as happy as their mates with barbels. It's totally understandable, since the barbels are their contact with the surround...

Re: Breeding Metae (bandits)

I don't think that is correct, they don't need to be 2 or 3 years old to produce viable eggs or fry. I've had 8½ months old Corydoras panda who spawned and the eggs hatched and fry appeared. I've had other youngsters from my own breeding as well, that produce viable eggs at a much younger age than 2...

Re: Breeding Metae (bandits)

Any ideas please?? What is the water parameters? Ph, gh and so on. It might be that your water is to hard for the eggs to hatch. I've raised lots of Metae corys, they just fix that themselves, with lots of youngsters growing up in the tank with the adults. Lots of java moss in my tanks gives the sm...

Re: Dried Banana Leaves and Indian Almond leaf teabags

I've never tried banana leaves in one of my tanks, but I regularly use both catappa leaves (sea almond) and lots of oak leaves. Thanks to eBay, I've found a supplier of Catappa leaves from Asia, and I usually put one or two (they are large, although I order "small" size)catappa leaf in eac...

Re: One-eyed Cory

Corydoras usually does fine with only one eye, since they are evolved to manage murky waters with not much sight in the wild. I've had a couple of one-eyed Corydoras during my time, and they never showed any signs of ill comfort or problems. Healthy and fine, just as able to find food like all the o...

Birger...wake up :-p There's a huge difference. I'm not keeping anything in a tank that isn't cleaned and scrubbed thoroughly in hot water every day. That effectively removes any harmful the bacteria or prevents it from building up.

Re: Corydoras panda - eggs

Oh, seeing Corys in such condition breaks my Cory-loving heart =(( . You really should not keep your Corydoras in a bare bottom tank. Please get some sand in there, so the poor little fish can grow their barbels back...:-( Bare glass bottoms will in many cases develop a bacteria film on the glass, w...

Is there anyone here that can translate the posts in the link above? Looks like something like Polish language to me?
It would be interesting to know more about how that cross-species breeding came to be. Did the owner keep only one of each sp. or what?

Re: Peppered Corys

Why are you feeding Corydoras vegetables like peas?? They're not herbivore. They are more omnivore to carnivore, and prefer a diet of insects like bloodworms and tablets like Tetra TabiMin.
Their small size is because they are one of the dwarf species of Corydoras, like Mats says.

Re: Looking for photos of juvies

I think maybe you will have to wait a while for the fry to develop their adult markings. Around 6-7 weeks, I guess, they will reveal their true identity. Before that age, there isn't many Corydoras fry that we're able to identify for sure. Most of them, with a few exceptions, will all look pretty mu...

And my fish had spawned while I was out of town and unfortunetly the fish ate all the eggs If 3 single, different Corydoras sp. is what you have in your tank really spawned, I would say it was the best solution that they ate their eggs! Re: Keeping multiple species of corys?

I'm not sure I get what you're asking correctly. Are you thinking about buying only ONE single Corydoras melini? Or a whole group of them? Since you haven't mentioned anything about thank size or how many fish you've already got in there, it's a little bit difficult to answer. Buying a group would b...

Re: New info on species profile, Corydoras condiscipulus

Something slightly different from a normal water change was done, yes. Not much, but it did the trick. I just added peat in the water barrel, then I removed it and filtered away the particles. Then I used that water to make a normal weekly water change. The ph was 7 at the time of spawning, which to...

New info on species profile, Corydoras condiscipulus

Hello I have bred a sp. of Corydoras where the info on the sp. profile says "Breeding; Unreported". Profile: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=471 At the moment I have about 70 juveniles of C. condiscipulus, and they are 4 months old (hatched in April). I can add ...

PS!
There is no walnut trees growing wild in our cold climate :-) The winters are too cold for them.

But we have similar methods to prevent eggs getting fungus;
oak leaves or alder cone extract is a good substitute.

I got one with a brown spot on the head in my latest batch of L144. It's a flaw, and not something one should breed later on. I gave the fish to a fellow aquarist who promised not to breed it, and keep the fish as the only Ancistrus in one of his tanks. The fish was born with the spot on the head. U...

Re: Have you heard of anyone succeeded in breeding C-140?

There seems to be several Corydoras species which are problematic in either obtaining a decent hatch rate or as in your experience you get many larvae but there is a high mortality rate before they under go final metamorphosis. For me these include C. duplicareous and C-121 which share some resembl...
