Re: Improving C.schultzei(Black)

Good discussion. On the viability of eggs, again, I've not had a problem so long as I remove the eggs early from the parents, add a drop of methylene blue and aerate vigorously. Extremely high hatch rate. I've currently got 5 or 6 batches of black aeneus from the last few moths growing out. Not a si...

Re: Improving C.schultzei(Black)

That's quite a strong statement from Frank which I have no reason to dispute, could be quite different stock either side of the pond. Like I say, my experience from 3 different groups over the last 8 years has been no significant problems with quality and always breeding true. Would be worth seeing ...

Re: Improving C.schultzei(Black)

I don't have a problem with poor quality offspring. I have found they breed true with no deformities from hundreds I have raised.

I'd be interested to see the source of info suggesting they need to be culled.

Cheers,
Mark.

Like Kim says, change can be a bad thing but often, by moving them to a new tank they can be stimulated to spawn.

BTW, Happy Birthday Kim!

I've kept and bred farlowella and sturisoma like many PC members. Both like their fair share of more proteinaceous foods. I'm currently keeping oxyropsis , another hypoptopomidae, not unlike Acestridium, which are relishing any all-round tablet foods and baby brine shrimp. Other loricariinae I've ke...

Re: adolfoi?

Until recently, almost every 'adolfoi' was a duplicareous. Now it seems adolfoi are more commonly available. Both Pier Aquatics and rare Aquatics have wild stock available at very reasonable prices.

The fish in the pic look the real deal.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

Brilliant! Some might be O.K. If there's plenty of plants in there I would expect a few to hatch and survive.

First in the queue for an article on a successful spawn, hopefully with some fry pics in a few weeks!

Any news back from the retailer on the fate of the remaining Acestridium?

Re: 2 questions

If they are from pier aquatics, I know the species you are talking about. They appear similar to L206, but could be a new species in their own right. Panaqolus need wood to chew on, which I am sure you know. Provide a variety of wood and supplement with plecoplanet wafers. They will eat more protein...

Don't want to contradict, but I've found shrimp to climb over eggs which then won't hatch, so if you're serious about breeding do it without any other inhabitants.

Hi, Amaralia are quite a difficult species to maintain, with challenging feeding habits, It's believed (or maybe I dreamt it!) they are a specialist fish-egg eater and eat loricariid eggs in the wild. They do look amazing though, almost prehistoric. I've seen available maybe 3 times in the last 5 ye...

Re: Ancistrus LDA016?

Hi,
I say its a A. cf cirrhosus 'calico' because it looks like one. They may be described by some as piebald, tortoiseshell, marbled or something else (e.g. violet, in this case).

I say they are sometimes called LDA 016 (incorrectly) because the catelog states that.

Mark.

Ancistrus cf cirrhosus 'calico',is what this is usually called.

A colour variant of the common bristlenose. Sometimes sold as LDA016.

Yorkshire's a big county but if you're anywhere nearby, Ferrybridge Aquatics is a good stop for unusual catfish. Further down the A1 is Viscum Aquatics - another shop worth a visit. Centromochlus aren't a common import to most LFS so you might need to venture across the Pennines. Otherwise, try your...

I don't want to get drawn into this debate, but at the CSG convention two years ago, the Ancistrus cf L144 (lemon blue-eyes / black eyes or whatever you describe them - but not red eyed albino and not long finned) were presented in the flesh and determined (by Ingo and others who were present) to be...

I've distrubuted plenty of kronei through CSG and other auctions, but mainly up North. I know at least two other breeders who have distributed kronei youngsters, but again in the North. So far as I know, the only kronei to be imported recently have come into Pier Aquatics. Approx 3 or so shipments in the last 4 years. If they were only 20mm, I'd suspect them to be tank bred. There have been a few breeders of kronei, from stock originating from Pier and their offspring. Even more di...

Hi, Have you got any pics of the males? The two shown look female. If they were bought as barbatus, they're probably barbatus. The only real way to tell is if you know for sure the catch locality. Kronei males also have a nose stripe, although its not as defined as barbatus. Are they wild to tank br...

There's two distinct types, CW10 is the gold lazer with very distinctive gold dorsal stripe. There are also plenty of CW23 doing the rounds, commonly called the orange lazer with a less distinct lazer stripe. Comparison of fry development has shown them to be different species, so best not to keep t...
