I used oak leaves in my tank before. I collected them in the fall, since they often don't fall off the tree like other leaves do.

I only had 2 Brochis at first, but then my friend gave me 3 more and as soon as I put them in the tank, they all started swimming together. They are definately happier in groups. You should have at least 2. Loaches are cool, but clown loaches can get a foot long. Synodontus are nice fish too. I thin...

I do about a 50% water change once every 1 to 2 months in my 50 gallon tank, and even less in my goldfish barrel. All my fish seem just fine with this. I have my tanks in our basement where there is only cold water, so whenever I do water changes, it takes the whole day. Filling the tank up takes th...

Research Paper

In my English class we have to write a 7-9 page, double spaced research paper. Everyone in my class picked controversial topics related to sports or drugs. I decided to do mine on Synodontis. The teacher said it would be easier to write about a controversial topic, but I didn't want to. I am plannin...

What do you think the lowest pH is that a fish can live in? 6? Maybe 5.5? What about 3? Yep, it's true. There is a fish that lives in water with a pH of 3. It is also the worlds smallest fish. You can read about it at http://www.comcast.net/news/science/index.jsp?cat=SCIENCE&fn=/2006/01/25/31161...

That is so funny! My pleco is susposed to grow to be a monster like that. He has already eaten one of my snails alive when he was only 4 inches long. I can't imagine what he'll do when he is a foot long! I hope he doesn't attack me. I'll have to start carrying cucumbers in my pocket. You...

I have always wondered that too. From what I've heard ich is found in every aquarium. How is it possible that a fish can get ich if it has been kept in pure filtered water for it's whole life. Does this mean there is ich living in our well water?

I personally wouldn't put fish in one gallon jars, but that's just me. :D Neons do better longer aquariums because they like to zip across the tank. Natural environment

You probably don't need substrate, but it is a good idea to have it. In my opinion the tank should be like their natural environment especially if you want to breed them. It would be a good idea to give them caves to hide in. You might want to think about adding plants. They aren't necessary but the...

Yesterday when I was at Petsmart I saw some interesting looking catfish hiding under a rock. They were a light orange with a few black bands across their body. Their face, however, was spotted with small black speckles. Their face seemed to be a lighter peach color. When I asked what they were, the ...
