Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

Speaking of seeing little plecos grow… These photos show the growth of some of my Hypancistrus L236 in about six and a half months. Curious to see what their definitive pattern will be in a year. this is my favorite :d b-) I'm really satisfied with its development DSC_0636.jpg DSC_0599.jpg DSC_0603....

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

Thanks, yes all 4 of them are demantoides. Picked them because they are slightly smaller and prefer more veggies. Two of them are pretty much gull grown I believe, 16cm~, and 2 are small, 5-6cm~. ' It's actually not true that demantoides stay smaller, I know several people who have had both demanto...

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

Hyhy , Very nice! Your L200s (are they Baryancistrus demantoides?) look very big, wow! Good luck with the little L397s, they will certainly do well for a while in the small tank. Also I love Lemon Tetras, I would have liked them too, but my girlfriend insisted on putting Paracheirodon axelrodi. :((...

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

Hyhy , If you have 4 L200, you should have at least 4 caves for them, better if more, my advice is to add them asap, the fish will be happy with it :) Yesterday I just prepared a new clay cave lined with wood, now I wait a few days for the silicone to dry, when I put it in the aquarium, I take pict...

Re: temperature question

Shane , Exactly, from Rio Xingu I have a group of Hypancistrus L236, then two small Hypancistrus zebra and a Leporacanthicus heterodon. Then I also have Hemiancistrus subviridis, which is obviously not from the Rio Xingu. What would be the maximum temperature for Corydoras cw010? And then there wou...

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

Hyhy , Yes, I attached the rocks very well with aquarium silicone, obviously when I hadn't yet filled the tank with water. In your case it would be enough to add some clay caves, they must be of various sizes and in greater numbers than the plecos, you can always add new ones without problems. I do...

temperature question

I have a tank dedicated to plecos who want high temperatures, around 27 degrees in winter and 29/30 in the middle of summer. Not all Corydoras adapt to such high temperatures, I currently have sterbai that are fine, but a few months ago I had to remove my whole group of trilineatus because they suff...

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

In my opinion you shouldn't have a problem accommodating 4 L200s in 70 gal. I have 5 between L200 and L128, for the moment I have no problems, they fought a bit (but nothing extreme, no one was hurt) the first weeks, now they have a hierarchy, each established their own den and they don't fight anym...

Looking sick :) Wish I had such a tank. :ymblushing: Really nice colors on that fish! Yes indeed, that's why it's my favorite plecos :d This one in the photo has been with me for about a month and a half and its color has become bright green as happened with the other specimen (you can see the phot...

Re: L200a temperature and feeding?

Like MarcW , I start with sweet potato and zucchini, the only difference is that to speed up the process, I don't give them raw for the first few weeks, but blanched. I have noticed that they eat sweet potato and zucchini even more willingly if they are blanched. Then when they're used to it and the...

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

Congratulations! Did you recover the eggs and put them in an egg hatchery? Cheers, Eric Unfortunately not. I wasn't expecting spawning so I wasn't prepared, as soon as I saw the eggs I ran to the shop to buy a hatchery, but when I got home, obviously the other fish had already eaten them. I'm sorry...

Re: My pleco tank, inspired by a biotope

The first spawning of a plecos species in this tank took place yesterday! It was Hypancistrus sp L260, and I was quite surprised, I never expected from them. - I have only two specimens of L260, which coincidentally turned out to be male and female, it is not easy to obtain a reproduction with only ...

Re: Sexing L200

Yes, one of them have a few spots there 👍. This is very interesting, so we should definitely remove this parameter to distinguish H. subviridis from B. demantoides. Although those spots on H. subviridis probably only appear on adult and very large specimens, because the specimen I had seen was also...

Re: Does Hemiancistrus subviridis eat snails?

Thanks for your detailed answer What else is in the tank? There are quite a few variables that could be in play here. When I opened the topic, I had only one H. subviridis together with a group of 7 L236, 2 L168 and 2 L260, 10 Corydoras sterbai and 3 Apistogramma hongsloi. This remained unchanged, I...

Wowwww :-BD :YMAPPLAUSE: Every time I insert a new Hemiancistrus in my aquarium, in the first days it totally cleans any surface from algae. But then over time he gets used to the food I offer him and almost completely stops taking care of the algae :)) but I have a question: it seems that maybe thi...

Blanched peas - do you remove the outer shell on each pea? Oh yes, not a fun job :)) but by now I've gotten the hang of it and I do it very quickly. Large quantities are needed to satisfy my 15/18cm…and it will be even more for your 20+cm. They are huge - I will try posting more pics later for you ...

Re: Does Hemiancistrus subviridis eat snails?

I haven't yet been able to film H. subviridis eating a snail (sooner or later I will), but by holding the camera close to the aquarium, I have had success with Hypancistrus L236! fja_dZsQMKA In the first video you can see one of my H. L236s making a first attempt, then he gets frightened and retreat...

I consider L200 and L128 to be the same species, so they are both my favourites :)) with a slight preference for the brilliant green of L200 :d I feed mine mostly blanched peas, zucchini, and sweet potatoes. Then I also often give green beans, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, sweet pepper, and other gree...

Re: Sexing L200

Anders B, It seems you have both sexes, looking at the photo from above, at least two specimens are different in the shape of the head, but it seems more like 3 males and two females, maybe I'm wrong.
Good luck with them, Hemiancistrus subviridis is my all time favorite pleco. Keep us updated.

Mine also liked to eat peeled sweet potato Oh yes! I tried yesterday for the first time and it was literally devoured, just like the zucchini. it was a hit and today I will give again but a much bigger chunk. Instead, I think that for commercial food they just have to get used to considering it foo...
