Re: The PlanetCatfish coolwall thread
I have given this thought a couple of beers. :an: :an: :an: HZ is seriously uncool, and RTC :an: is cool. The reasoning behind this is that I much prefer to drink in the company of RTC keepers than to drink with HZ keepers. This is my personal opinion and should therefore be the correct opinion for ...

Re: L200 Green Phantom, need tankmate suggestions
Everyone thinks the food they use for their plecos is the best. It is just our nature (I do the same), so suggestions and recommendations should be judged according to our needs to promote what we our selves think is right. I tried to explain this to customers, but I have given up on that challenge....

There is nothing wrong with the species itself, but the idea and culture behind it is somewhat questionable and makes it uncool

Re: The PlanetCatfish coolwall thread
Hypancistrus zebra is to small and to shy to be cool. A lot of fishkeepers would be much happier with other species, but it is the H. zebra they think will make them happy. The H. zebras are uncool. A group of cheap and readily available L75s would maybe give more pleasure to most catfish kee...

Since I don`t drive and really dislikes the whole concept of cars I will not make many car analogies about the Red Tail Catfish. Those who keep these fish probably drive a pickup truck. Has a large beard, large tummy and would really like their monster catfish to drink beer and eat macaroni with che...

Is this S. petricola or S. lucipinnis? (klikk the text below picture to view full size) Is it hybrid or real? From what I have learned from this thread it seems real, and a bargain at around 7-8 euros if the picture mathes the product of course. http://www.tanganyika-cichlider.dk/product_info.php?cP...

Re: Breeding plecos successfully in a 5ft x3ft x2ft
There will be fighting if you put several species together, but if you have backup tanks and are willing to take the risk you can. L240 is a very good choice. It is not easy to breed, but why not try? It is a super cool fish! I would reccomend buying 8-12 sub adults or fewer adults. Have a look here...

Re: The hybrid Syno thread
I can`t see that the production of hybrids has any relevance to the conservation and management of the Afrikan biotopes. For serious catfish keepers the hybrid's are a nuisance because we have trouble finding the species we wan`t. The solution is of course to get wild caught specimens and breed and ...

Re: Which Hypancistrus (and sex)??
Cant be sure, but 1,3 and 4 looks like L340 or maybe L129. They are definetely the same species as you bought them together. The fish are not conditioned/mature enough for me to sex them. How big are they? How long have you had them? Fish nr. 2 is a different species and must be removed from the gro...

Are you sure you have any definite males? To me all of them look like females. If there are males they didn`t look very masculin when you photographed them. This might have changed since you bought them. Why not make a new photosession and photograph them one by one from above and in your hand from ...

Fishermen and exporters alike routinely call P. albomaculatus "pleco galaxias", but not "galaxy pleco".
Anyways... A couple of photos more would easily settle it. A photo of mouth with teeth would be great.

Sorry for your loss. Great documentation  I took out all of my 6 L65s this evening and concluded that I have 3 males and 3 females. The females measured 12cm tl and the males measured 14cm tl. At least one of the females was gravid. Sexing this species is dead easy because of the extremely...

Re: L082?
I agree, most likely H. contradens or L201. Which means, you probably got a good bargain (over here, they are more expensive than L82). Temperature is roughly the same, but you should replace the veggies with a meatier diet. L82 are far more expensive than H. contradens in all parts of the world in...

This is a very interesting subject  Although I currently don`t keep synos I am a great fan of the genus and hope to acquire a genuine species some time in the future. Interesting Reading, thanks for that. Have you kept standard L200s to compare behaviour and feeding etc? I have kept both species for several years. Hemiancistrus subviridis are very shy (mine at least. I only feed them at night as they refuse to come out during the day). Baryancistrus demantoides ...
