Help with sexing two L024 Pseudacanthicus pitanga

Hi all, I have the opportunity to buy two Pseudacanthicus pitanga. They are offered as a male and a female based on their head and body shape. Can you give me your opinion if this is the case? On both pictures (click!) the fish on the left is the fish assumed to be the female: https://s26.postimg.or...

Please help sexing my L091

Hi all, I'm keeping my L091 now for three years. Last week I had to catch some cichlid fry in his tank (or hers?) and was able to take a few pictures. Can you help sexing this beautiful fish? https://s26.postimg.org/3rgpsv7o9/DSC_0506.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/b8px82x7d/DSC_0507.jpg https://s26.po...

You can also try feeding just before the lights go out. Then there is food in the tank when he leaves his cover.

Feeding shrimp to L014 & L253

Hi, maybe a silly question... I want to add some frozen shrimp to the diet of my L014 and L253. We have a good brand of frozen fish food here in the Netherlands (no added preservatives and stuff). They offer boiled and raw shrimps, both of them whole. My two questions: - Which is better? raw or cook...

L027 with Cestode/Tapeworm?

Hi all, I am not experienced with fish diseases and need you advice. Last week I started treating two of my tanks with Sera Tremazol since some of my cichlids showed signs of gill flukes (scrubbing along wood and sand). This morning I started the second treatment which is advised after 7 days. Yeste...

Re: L027 damaged its tail fin

Hi, it's not where it starts (on the fish side) but half way in the direction of the tail tip. Too bad if it doesn't grow back :(..

L027 damaged its tail fin

Hi all, A couple of weeks ago my L027 damaged its tail fin when he knocked over some spider wood. I think he cut himself in a fork on the bottom that I use for feeding him zucchini (now I use spoons). Specifically, he cut off a bit of the bottom part of his tail fin where the fin extends, like it al...

Re: info about Panaque pleco

Looks like a Panaque cochliodon. What info are you looking for? They cost around 699 euro in the Netherlands in this size. No experience keeping this specific animal. But big panaque eat lots of wood and create a lot of mess. Can be quite territorial in this adult size.

Aspidoras and Biotodoma Cupido

Hi all, I'm considering setting up a new tank and was wondering if I can keep Aspidoras together with Biotodoma Cupido. My main concern is the aspidoras becoming a snack. Does anyone have (first hand) experience with this combination? I already own the aspidoras, so any suggestions for smaller SA ci...

Re: Introducing an adult L014 to an existing catfish populat

Thanks for your input and advice! I won’t be adding one to the future tank than. Mine is primarily on a vegetable diet. He doesn’t feed during the day (neither does the L091). I feed my cory some black mosquito and they are so fast to eat them all that I doubt that the other cats get more than a sna...

Introducing an adult L014 to an existing catfish population

I am in the process of getting a new tank. I am now in the planning stage, where the great ideas are born.. b-) The tank will measure 250x90x70(h) cm, approximately 1500 litres (gross). The tank will be Rio Xingu inspired and the main inhabitants will be a group of Geophagus Altifrons (pref. bought ...

ID for this brown/black and white pleco

Hi, Today I got a catfish from a friend who adopted it some time ago (possibly years). Since he's more in the adoption of water turtles and I am more in to catfish I agreed to take him(I guess). Since I have three tanks to potentially put him in, I took the gamble. The fish was photographed after tr...

L134 behaviour

Hi, I have a question about the behaviour of my L134. I noticed the last three evenings that he comes up to the water surface to sit on the glass. I saw him doing this also in the past, also a few years ago when he was in another tank. And I assume he also did this in the dark in the past (days / we...

Filter material Eheim 2080 (incl. using a pre-filter)

I bought a second hand Eheim 2080 as a second filter for my catfish tank. Normally I fill my Eheim’s with the filter material provided with them. But this one comes without most of the filter materials. What I did with my other filters for catfish tanks is adding a pre-filter unit filled with a piec...

Small Corys that prefer/ don't mind a strong current

Hi, I'm currently setting up a new tank for some small pleco's (1 or 2) that prefer a strong current. The tank has sand in it, some leaves, a fair amount of wood and is filtered over turf. The tank has only a few plants. The size is 100x40x40cm at 26C. Now I'm considering putting a small cory specie...

Re: L027 Panaque sp. 'Xingu': correct and healthy?

Hi there, The tank in the pictures is not my tank. And to be honest, I have very little knowledge about discuss fish. What you could try in this situation is to feed the discuss when the lights are on, and maybe train them by feeding at the same spot every time. My cats (not the one in the picture) ...

L027 Panaque sp. 'Xingu': correct and healthy?

Hi all, Can you please confirm, or reject and share your opinion about this Panaque catfish species? It is supposed to be a L027 Panaque sp.'Xingu'. And does this specimen looks healthy to you? I think it is indeed a L027, but I'm not sure about the 'Xingu' colouring (lack of knowledge). I also thin...

Re: Raising L264 juvenile

Thanks for the advice up to now. I will look into the Hakiri algae tabs and take it easy on the protein. I suspect mine eats zuchini, but not in large quantities. Any thoughts on the subject of when to move him to the bigger tank with the bigger catfish? Before I move him I will create some more cave...

Raising L264 juvenile

Hi all, About a month ago I bought a juvenile L264. He (or she) will go into my 150cm tank with, among other fish, an adult L128 and L200. It currently lives in a smaller tank together with an adult L134, which even accepts the juvenile in his cave. I put the L264 in the smaller tank because I want ...
