Females are generally smaller but not that easy to sex when young as they grow at different rates. try getting more than one (juvenile) as they don't always survive anyway.Adult male will push juveniles into corner at first wont change if male .If its a juvenile female will slowly let into territory ...

TRY feeding with organic cucumber /courgette .or source from local market.been feeding my bristle noses and common plecs like this for years. BRISTLE noses breading on "batch 3" seem happy enough.

Have u tried treating for velvet slime having trouble with tap water when performing water change. Used pond water (organic aged water when topping back up ),Treated with velvet slime twice in a month problem seems to have gone.
