Re: Catfish for a 180

Thanks for pointing out the difference in acrylic popularity in Europe, Bas. Viktor, unfortunately I couldn't tell you how widespread, just that it happens. Most of the local guys I know only house aros, stingrays, datnoids and similar monster company in their bigger acrylic tanks. There's good pote...

Re: Catfish for a 180

Viktor you basically summed up what I was concerned about with an acrylic tank. The pleco he has would probably need a glass tank, and a tank of that weight would need to go in a space which has a floor rated to hold it. I know it's pretty basic stuff, but I still see people putting larger tanks on ...

Catfish for a 180

Glass or acrylic tank? This may make more of a difference to a potential stock list than you're aware of, unless you're already aware. Loricarids don't go well with acrylic (to varying degrees). Despite how much heavier glass tanks are, they may offer more stocking options. Since this is still a hyp...

Any of the hypans except for L46 and P. compta should be within your budget. Check out Canadianaquatics.com if you're in Canada.

Re: Don't sell your catch on Craigslist :)

I've never heard of recreational fishing licenses with exemptions for making commercial sales and quite honestly, I would be surprised if there was. Wouldn't that kind of shake the system? Sport fishing is what it is, recreation. We have bag or possession limits in recreational hunting and fishing f...

Re: L046 Zebra Plecos - Vancouver Island

I have seen a LF/WTB request on BCA in the last few months for L46 specifically for the island, and the next closest breeder is in Calgary as far as I know. Good luck and I might have to hit you up sometime in the future too.

Re: Hi, can you help sort out DBam's L-numbers?

First fish looks like Hypancistrus sp(l401). You may be right. What would be the determining traits differentiating between L401 and 318? The "L199" is looks a lot like a Peckoltia to me, not sure which one but either a Tocantins or Colombian species. I will look into any possible Peckolt...

Hi, can you help sort out DBam's L-numbers?

Hi Planet Catfish, I have used PC for years and have enjoyed reading the forum. My fiance and I love Loricarids and while she is finishing practicums, I have inherited all her fish. I have a good idea that a couple of her fish are not what she or the seller thought they were, especially after readin...

S. aureum. The dark lines on the dorsal look like they're there. I'm no expert though.

Male. Body narrower than head base and I think I spy some large pectoral odontones. Now let's see if I'm on the same track as the cat experts.

A single black ghost knife with a few crenicichla regani and a group of L128 (or any larger, more voracious pleco you enjoy). Could always add schools of any tetra or hatchetfish. I love the dimensions of your tank!

May be hard to say, I'm no paleontologist, but is possibly an annelid due to shape and segmentation. However, it could also be the only chitinous or sclerotised body parts of a larger organism, if we apply the lessons learned from anomalocaris.

I can't speak much to tropical plants. I was wondering if you're planning on adding a UV sterilizer at any point, or if there's a reason you've stayed from using one. Sorry to hear about the 2 rays.

Re: L66/L333 cave size?

The site seems to suggest larger for L066/333, and I would too. I've never bred them but my gravid female would need a larger diameter opening to fit pectoral fins through, let alone allow for turning or backing out. Entrapment in a small space has killed many a female pleco.

This could be due to a multitude of reasons, including but not limited to shock (transport, ammonia poisoning, acclimation, changes in parameters between previous tank and yours), water quality (some parameters from your tank would help), tank mates, size of this fish, and setup and equipme...

L46 Collection Numbers

Hi, I remember reading somewhere on the net years ago about the numbers of L46 collected for the ornamental trade in the years leading up to the ban. Re: new fish tank

I'm not that familiar with standard tank dimensions outside of the regularly encountered tanks, but a 125gal tank that stays 20" or less in width and does not exceed 60" can only increase in height. With the species you're interested in, the footprint of the tank is what's most important. ...
