Re: feeding BN fry

a few other things I've found to work well: For brand-new wrigglers, I've had the best luck with moving zucchini that has already been in the tank for 2-3 days right outside the cave entrance so it's easy to find. Also makes a great snack for dad if he leaves the cave quickly for a minute. -fresh gr...

Re: Urgent HELP !!!!!!! new pics

Might be wrong here, but a UV filter might temporarily hide the problem, but doesn't generally FIX the problem (overly crowded tank with too many territorial bottom dwellers)... Shouldn't need a UV sterilizer on the tank to prevent bacterial or parasitic outbreaks on a stable, cycled tank. Water cha...

Possible Sticky for Your Quarantine Protocols / Meds / Tips?

I realize this is a gigantic topic, but I was trying to find a collection of people's typical quarantine protocols... Anyone care to share their routine or tips? Perhaps I should have posted this under the "Plecos" or "Cories forums," etc. but I'm sure some things are similar &am...

Re: Best Fit For Pleco?

Thanks, deff a useful chart. I just set up 20g long with marine sand with texas holy rock, driftwood mix. Looking into plants like anubis to put in there. Debating on pleco, tetra tank or african cichlids. I know you already have your tank set, but if you're interested in plecos & tetras, you c...

Re: Ancistrus shifting to more protein diet?

I don't know A. claro (sorry!)... but if she goes from "chubby" & full-looking to "flat as a board" in a few days, you'll have your answer :d Is one of them guarding a cave excessively, or darting in & out of a cave a lot, cleaning it as obsessively as one cleans for a ne...

Re: Urgent HELP !!!!!!!

Once again thank for the useful answers I do not use an heater os summer days, so its not the cause... It seems is infecting slowly other pleco'es I'm not sure if you're saying you don't use a heater during the summer, or that your heater simply doesn't turn on during summer days... If you actually...

Re: Ancistrus shifting to more protein diet?

Not an expert, but they'll jump in soon, I'm sure... My female Bushynose (A. cirrhosus) http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=49 had her 1st batch of fry about 8 months ago & now, and every 30 days since, she's laid another clutch. She eats ravenously & seems much more ...

Glad you're feeling better Apisto :-) You don't know me, but your advice & knowledge on PlanetCatfish has been a wonderful resource for me over the last few years -- thank you for sharing some of your passion for all things fish! But here's to staying strong & bouncing back! Just wanted to m...

Re: Which part of the world are you from?

Milford, Connecticut, USA, right on the ocean :d : ) Fish (plecos, cories & loaches) have always been my favorites. If only they could create a fish tank in which every surface is a "bottom," like the amazing invention of the "all edges brownie pan," I would be in heaven! I s...

Re: 125 West African build

Shane, Your new tank is gorgeous! I'm really glad you went back to redo the background a 2nd time -- I really had no idea what you were trying to create at first (haven't seen a 3D DIY background before), but love the end result! I never would have guessed it would make such a difference to the over...

Re: Some of my panaque's

Rob, I absolutely LOVE all of your pictures, but this one makes me laugh every time I see it, as the Panaque's sawdust is so obvious! I'm setting up a new tank for a L190 & my boyfriend wasn't sure why I was adding SO much driftwood until I showed him these 2 pictures together (he's more of a do...

Re: Which Royal Panaque did I inherit?

Thanks for everyone's help & your definitive ID Jools : ) I've been trying to get close belly pics but I suppose it's making him/her feel a little self-conscious! Panaque is happily awaiting the completion of their new tank, but chowing down happily on zucchini, sweet potatoes & driftwood in...

Geoff, Sorry to have hijacked the thread... your comment just caught my attention & made me wonder : ) I had never thought of the Amazon as a loud place, but the way you describe it is perfect (and enlightening), so thank you! We typically don't leave the tank lights on very much, and when they ...

Re: My L034 (ancistrus ranunculus) have spawned again - Pict

Thanks Jac. I seem to have discovered what was upsetting the male too. The tank is at head height, and I think that me walking past all the time just upset him. I put some black plastic on the outside of the tank, so that he could not see me walking past and stuff. He has successfully managed to ra...

Re: Urgent HELP !!!!!!!

Experts will jump in soon, but in the meantime... The cloudy eye could be a bacterial infection -- my 1st suggestion is to check your water parameters & think about possible over-crowding, or undue stress for the fish. Stress from poor water quality or over-crowding can leave them much more pron...

Slate Caves -- Online Source? Red Slate Safe?

Anyone have a good source for buying slate pleco caves online (especially based in the US?) Or are there members on here who sell them currently? I am looking for rectangular caves with removable lids. Also, I wasn't sure if red slate is safe for aquariums, or if the iron content (?) makes it unsafe...

thank you ALL for your help -- I really appreciate it! I didn't realize it was too small to be sexed yet... just hate calling it "IT!" Rob, I can try to get a good picture of his belly, but I looked at the photos in the CatElog of L330 & all these guys look entirely spotted, not stripe...

Milton, WOW that was fast -- thank you! I really wanted to know exactly what he/she is... somehow it feels better! Is it possible to sex a Panaque at this size (6-7")? I haven't been able to get a great shot of its papillae yet... guess it is a little embarrassing for the fish :) You said it se...

Which Royal Panaque did I inherit?

Can anyone help me figure out what kind of Royal Panaque I inherited? He was part of a very large tank at my Dr.'s office that I have always admired. When the tank got badly cracked, they called asking if I was still interested. I've ordered a 120 gallon tank for a more permanent home for him (or he...
