Re: Synodontis lucipinnis, the other Syno project

Ok, some assistance in sexing these fish would be appreciated. I had to catch them to move them from their holding tank into their new home so took the opportunity to photograph all of them individually as well. There are 9 fish in total just now but I think (based on these) pictures they're not qui...

Is it your flash making more of the fins white than should be??

Birger
Yes, flash is overexposing the whites on these images. The settings used in these images work OK with cichlids but then again they don't have splashes of white on them!

Re: Synodontis lucipinnis, the other Syno project

Evening Richard, Can't remember how many I picked up, either 8 or 10 (same source, an additional blood line is being looked for) of them so hopefully a mix of sexes in the group. Sounds like a project for tomorrow, catch and photograph them and with some help from this kind forum sex them (I've alwa...

Re: Synodontis multipunctata, surprise in the sump!

Thanks Birger and Andy, S. multipunctata was what I had decided on as well!

I have some large adult mbuna in with them so if there was only a few youngsters being brooded it was probably quite easy to miss this stage!

Synodontis multipunctata, surprise in the sump!

Working in the fish house a couple of weeks back and amongst a variety of jobs I syphoned some debris (and quite a few Malaysian trumpet snails) out of the first chamber of the sump. Rather surprised on glancing in the bucket I'm syphoning into to see a couple of fish swimming round in there. Not th...

Re: Confirmation of Aspidoras ID please

...........Let us know how your eggs do. Evening Larry, I had the pleasure of watching the eggs hatch on Tuesday morning and seeing the tiny fry sink to the substrate and then scuttle away (I think about 30 or 40). Looking in the tank over the past few days I see the occasional fry on the substrate...

Re: Confirmation of Aspidoras ID please

I hope you plan to and succeed in getting them to breed. Your Aspidoras are a pretty species. I have become fond of Aspidoras. They are a nice change from more familiar Corydoras spp. Larry, It took time but I finally moved a pair into their own tank on Friday, this evening I find a load of eggs at...

Re: Confirmation of Aspidoras ID please

I would say that you have A. spilotus, I base this on the central body pattern, which can be several large blotches or a broad band along the center and the caudal barring. Confirmation of Aspidoras ID please

Evening all, Collected today under the name Aspidoras depinnai , no collection location as they came from Singapore. Only reason for asking is that while discussing them in the shop it was mentioned that they thought the ID was possibly incorrect?? http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/a_d_wood/a...

Sturisoma ID confirmation please

Hi folks, Also arrived from Peru today. Listed as Sturisoma aureum from the Rio Nanay. Currently 60mm SL I'm thinking they would be Sturisoma nigrirostrum thanks to the brown underside to the 'nose'. http://www.biddulph.ndo.co.uk/web_pics/sturi_001.jpg http://www.biddulph.ndo.co.uk/web_pics/sturi_00...

Hi, I was coming from the view of a microbiologist and concern over bacteria entering the environment(my own background), certainly protozoans present a whole different issue. For a disease causing bacteria to survive, it must have a host. Without that host then the organism will die (although certa...

I would actually argue that its the other way around. We keep our fish in a controlled environment and when disease occurs, we treat and eradicate that disease from the system. Therefore the potential for introducing new diseases to the environment must be minimal (but still possible!!). The biggest...
